Location details: Driver seat of my car facing south, stop at the intersection of I-101 and Lawrence Blvd in Sunnyvale, CA.

Observation Details: While stopped at the intersection a split second vertical streak of light in the distant horizon caught my eye. The light resembled a falling star. It started above the horizon and ended at about the horizon. The thin light was constant in shape and red/orange in color. The odd thing was the path of the light. As the light traveled down vertically, it made a 90 degree turn to the west followed immediately by another 90 degree turn down (toward the ground) then disappeared. The whole event lasted a split second but the path was clearly visible.

Went out to car to get something, and looked up at night sky to view it nice and clear for first time in a few weeks. As I looked up, basically straight up but facing west, I noticed a line of dim objects, about 30-40 (I will use rough numbers in my description because of how quick event happened) and my first thought was that it was birds reflecting the city lights, but then the objects split into 3 separate groups, one with about 10 objects, the middle one around 20 and the third (farthest group from me) was maybe about 15, again just rough numbers, I didn’t have time to count!

The group was traveling in a southern direction, from where I was in Sunnyvale, I’d say they were directly over Mountain View, about 2 miles west of me. That path would take them over Cupertino, Saratoga, then the northern edge Santa Cruz Mountain range (around here we call them the Cupertino and Saratoga hills). The group was moving at a good rate of speed, it was hard for me to focus on them because they were so spread out, and I was trying to see if I could discern any shape, which vaguely they were each a slight V-shape, but I’m not 100% on that.

The whole sighting lasted maybe 10-15 seconds, and at the end of it they all seemed to group together and fade out, which is why I think they were only reflecting city light and they dimmed out going over the mountains. A group of birds could not travel that distance that fast across this valley. I tried to stay focus on the direction they faded out but saw nothing more. About 30 seconds later I heard a plane and saw its ! flashing navigation lights, in the same west direction I was facing but far lower, I believe small planes over this area have to be around 1500-2000 ft, so using that these objects were higher, but I could not estimate for sure what height.

They made no sound, and moved very quickly in combining and separating their groups.

very big shiney disc traveling quietly, high & fast, no lights, directly north in sunnyvale ca

it was cloudy only in the northern sky & was fairly dark & still night. there was a little glow coming off the clouds. still, a quiet night. no aircraft around. i was in the backyard of friends house, we were the only 2 observers. around 11:30 pm, we happened to look straight up & saw what looked like very big, silver or shiny & shadowed disc, very high altitude, moving very quickly, with no sound or lights, moving smoothly on a direct north path. the craft looked to be very big for how high & fast it was traveling. i watched the craft from straight up to aprox. 30 degrees on the north horizon, which lasted from 8 to 10 seconds. it was amazing that for how high & fast the craft was, it was quick, smooth, huge, no lights & seemed to very high. it then disappeared into cloudy area directly to the north. after that, we noticed a small faint light traveling in an eastern direction & disappeared to the east, almost looked like satellite. the duration of the ligh! t moving to east was aprox. 15 to 20 seconds. after the light disappeared, the clouds started getting thicker & within 5 minutes, the hole sky was overcast. there was no lights in the sky or other aircraft in the sky until a little after the incident, which was good so we could compare our sighting to regular aircraft.. too dark to get photos or video..

flashing object with erratic motion

Tonight I observed an irregular object on a bearing 135 degrees, passing directly overhead at constant rate of speed under the cloud base of roughly 6000 feet. As there are several airports nearby, I usually ignore aircraft passing overhead. However, this object was unusual in that it displayed a very erratic sequence of strobe lights, which appeared to flash in quick sequence as a cluster with an irregular outline, go dark for about 5 seconds, then start up again. I saw a irregular outline of this object as the cloud level reflected city lights around the object, subtending about 1 degree in diameter. At this altitude and lighting conditions, I can normally see wings and tail on aircraft. That said, I would completely dismiss this "sighting," except for one odd detail. As I tracked the movement of this object, the cluster of strobes would sometimes appear clearly outside the previous location of this object, giving the impression the object was quickly darting from one position to another. I thought this was a perceptual illusion until this odd behavior repeated 6 times, but I'm still baffled. The nature of these strobes appeared as a very quick, erratic sequence, no geometric arrangement appearing to change color almost too quickly to register. These may have been orange, blue, yellow—and quite different from the static red/green position lights seen on wing tips, and I normally don't see strobes darting around on aircraft.

Reflective silver object, possibly orb or egg shaped flying near some fighter jets this afternoon in Sunnyvale, CA

I was sitting in my backyard around 2:30 or 3:00pm today when I heard a very loud sound of a jet(s) approaching. I looked up and saw two fighter planes flying very close together in a 10:00 direction behind me, they had already flown overhead before I heard them I guess.

Then at about 12:00 direction something caught my eye, it was a silver, reflective orb or possibly egg shaped object that seemed to be undulating colors, possibly blue or purple. Then a large passenger jet entered my vision at approx. 7:00 direction. Although I had 3 other standard aircraft in view it was very difficult to determine size or distance of the fourth out-of-place flying object. It seemed to be flying at about the same altitude as the jets or perhaps a bit lower. The object moved so strangely (sort of curving or arced movements) that I ran inside to grab the digital camera. Of course the damn battery was recharging in the wall socket. Grabbed it anyway, loaded into camera, ran outside (it turned on), but when I aimed at object it was already getting too far away to see anything. I could still see with my eyes but couldn't train viewfinder on it, very frustrating. Camera only has 3x zoom. Lost sight of object after fiddling with camera further. Very interesting thing to see but disappointed I could not document - so all that remains is yet another anecdote. :(

while walking my dog two objects appeared on my left over railroad tracks

I was walking my dog when I thoght I witnessed a falling star. It was a small bright white light. It was dark & I couldn't make out its shape. It stopped falling and hovered. While hovering another one came from above me. It was larger with circling red lights. This also hovered about a 1/2 mile from me. At times the smaller one would fly at a great speed and change directions in ways our aircraft can't. At times the larger vehicle would also do zig-zigs at a great speed and then return & hover. And just as fast as they appeared, they disappeared. The whole event lasted about 10 minutes.

Big white light leaves with a loud rumbling noise

My co-worker told me that as he was driving into work that he saw a big, white light sitting stationary in the sky and that after a few minutes of observation that it took off horizontally with a loud rumbling noise.

His view of it was soon obstructed by some trees, but he had heard the loud rumbling noise with the car windows rolled up.

Several minutes later, he observed what seemed to be the lights of a large conventional aircraft in the general vicinity of where the bright white light had originally been spotted.

Sphere like objects in rainbow seemed to "cloak" or "chamelon" colors of the spectrum then vanish

My girl friend and I where leaving our apartment, there was a faint drizzle in the air. We both noticed an extremley vibrant double rainbow in the sky to the south east.

As we both admired the sky, we noticed a flashing sphere like object at about 110* of the brighter rainbow, then two other obejects slightly to the right and higher(125*). Each object seemed to mimic the color of the spectrum it was in, when they would pass from one color to the next it had a very fluid-ey look. The rainbows faded and still the objects where breifley the same colors they had when in the rainbows spectrum, they then seemed to "cloak"(for lack of a better term) to a dark grey, (much darker than the sky) We both stood there questioning what we where seeing until all three objects vanished approx 16:28. Each object stayed the same size the entire time, until it was gone. We couldn't believe what we where looking at, it was a site i've never seen.

Blinking, moving object that traveled with an erratic but repeated pattern in the daytime sky above the silicon valley.

Object appeared above trees coming from 280 degees true (approx WNW) traveling with a heading of 100 degrees true at an altitude too high to determine a shape, and traveled slowly to a point nearly directly overhead. While moving, the object was blinking with distinct regularity (1 second bright blink followed by 2 seconds dim blink). Object slowed almost to a stop overhead and quit blinking. Object appeared to be a brownish/gray color. Stayed motioness for approx. two minutes. With an immediate change in direction the object started slowly on a heading of 320 degree true and accelerated very rapidly to a speed faster than that of any airborn object previously seen by this observer. Object began a zigzag pattern cotinuing at a high rate of speed and disappeared from view behind trees.

Twenty to thirty minutes later (11:15) the object appeared at the same location as originally sighted and began to moving in the same direction (100 degrees true) as before with a different frequency of blinking (1 sec bright followed by 1 sec dim). Object slowed to nearly a complete stop when it reached a point overhead, quit blinking and disappeared from view.

HUGE Ball of Light Falling from the Sky. Possible meteor or missile test on California coast.

Was driving south on Hwy 85 from Mountain View heading towards Cupertino. Saw a HUGE white ball of light falling from the sky over the hills of Saratoga. It had a long fat tail, and took it's time falling into the earth. hundreds of folks saw it and were calling KGO radio etc. and TV stations. I called the San Jose Mercury News, someone there told me it was a missile test by Edwards Air Force base. Could have been done at Vandenberg Air Force. There were sightsing at Monterey Bay. The only thing in the news about it, said it was a meteor. I can say that I've never seen a meteor that close and that Huge!!

zig-zag persistent low-altitude contrail

I didn't observe a craft, but rather the trail of one. I was driving home from work at about 6:30pm, heading south on San Thomas Expressway, when I noticed a thin white contrail in the south-bay sky (probably just over Los Gatos, CA). It was no ordinary contrail. First, it did not dissipate for over half an hour or longer. But most important, it was not in a straight line, but rather in extremely tight loops, zig-zags, and sharp angles. It looked like random scribbles in the sky. There's no way a conventional aircraft could produce this, and yet it was definitely artificial, and appeared to be at low altitude, I'd guess less than 4000 feet.

I am definitely not the only person to observe this phenomena. It was plainly visible in the sky, and must have been observed by atleast everyone heading south on San Thomas with me. I'd love to hear from anyone in the south bay area who witnessed its formation.

Silent, Dark and Stealthlike this craft "coasted" by in the night sky.

-- It was a relatively clear moonlit night. I stepped out for a smoke / \ and gazed at the night sky as I usually do. Not the first time I've / ____ \ seen a "craft" or strange "light" in the sky but this is the first /--/ \--\ I've ever reported. The object was almost V-shaped with a "blunt/flat" nose, no lights at all, upturned "skegs" or tail fins at the rear of the craft, dark grey to black in color and made a soft whisp of a sound as it flew by. At first I thought it was a flock of birds in formation but noticed no "voids" between them. The object was solid as it banked/rocked (when I noticed the tailfins) across the sky. It traveled in a south bound direction (NASA to Santa Cruz) a bit over 1/4 mi. up at approx. 50 mph. Proportionate at 50yds L x W. Incredible! Being close to many Air Stations/Ports I've seen my share of planes and sea birds that fly through the night, this was by far one of the "oddest" occurances I've ever seen. I do believe in "aircraft technology" and can't discolse this sighting to any other explanation other than an advanced type of stealth fighter. Although I've never seen the stealth planes fly in person (other than TV) this craft differed in shape & sound. Impressive.....

Me and my wife were taking a walk after dinner on Friday 7 July at about 9:20 PM she showed me something strange in the sky. It was a noiseless slow moving (horizontally) low flying object. From the bottom of it a very-very bright beam of blue light was emnating (diameter of the origin of light was about 6 inches). That divergent beam of cosmic blue light was reaching up to the ground. We stopped as we thought soon the blue light would be upon us. But then suddenly this thing switched off lights. It immediately disappeared and the trace it left behind clearly looked as though it suddenly changed its flight direction and went vertically upwards at tremendous speed. Most surprising thing was the the beam of light which it was emnating remained still above our apartment complex for about 5 minutes and slowly faded away. I was excited and stunned because the whole thing didn't look natural. I immediately calledup a friend of mine. He came over to our house and we chatted for quite some time about this. We tried tuning into TV news channels but couldn't find anything about this. At around midnight I searched into web for UFO related links and found that lot of people had reported this strange sighting at approximately the same time from Palo Alto, Los angles, San Diago etc..... I also reported this on that web site. Responses have started coming in. I don't know what it was but I'll never be able to forget it.............

Stationary lights seen surrounded by circular cloud that shrank in diameter to nothing.

I was taking the trash out at a dark end of the house and happened to notice a bright white light (like a landing light on an aircraft) about 5-10° over the southern horizon and I'd estimate it to have been 6 or 7 miles away over the Santa Cruz Mountains. I'd heard that a couple of planets were in alignment and were very bright appearing so I stopped and studied it thinking that it might've been those planets. It was a perfectly clear night sky, no clouds but this light had a perfectly round cloud around it. I'd estimate it was 3 times the diameter of the Moon. the light was close enough to nearby trees, chimneys, ets that I could tell it was stationary. In the course of 2 or 3 minutes the cloud reduced in size and visibility as did the bright light in the center of it until it vanished. It was very even how it got smaller and dimmer and staying absolutely round. No drifty breaking up like a cloud would do. I went inside and told my wife about it then got my binoculars and! several minutes later went back out to look around and saw the same exact thing all over again from the same direction except it was maybe twice a s far away and it was quite a bit smaller and dimmer by the time I saw it and it was very close to the horizon of the Mountains (but behind them) and I couldn't really get any more detail with the binoculars. I should mention that this part of the sky is a flight path for incoming aircraft I assume for SFO International. I've been around long enough to know that incoming aircraft with landing lights on move and get bigger, not smaller as they approach and don't have accompanying clouds. I was an aircrewman in the Navy and have some experience in looking for aircraft in the skies. I described this to a TWA pilot friend of mine and he didn't have a clue what I'd seen. That's about it.

I heard several loud explosions with the same interval of time between each. I went out on the porch and observed a white light which looked like a star. It was hard to judge it's distance but it exploded every 3-4 seconds and dimmed.I was looking east towards Santa Clara along Evelyn Ave.This same phenomena also happened on Feb. 7th 1991. This time at 22:30 (approx.) After 15-20 minutes a C-141 came from the north and flew around the area. I talked to a 7-11 cashier closer to the event who jumped under the counter he was so scared, this was several days later. Probably police reports filed on this one.

Figure-eights or infinity symbolism ?

I was looking south from near the intersection Evelyn Ave. and Fair Oaks Ave. and saw bright lights about three or four times the size of a star making figure-eight movements parallel to the ground. My estimate is about 2000 to 2500 ft. altitude.

It took me a few minutes to figure out how many craft there were. One would make a figure-eight and have a trail of light behind it briefly, while the other craft would do the same but at 90' to it. So that it looked like a four petaled flower, about 2-3 miles from end to end. The two craft would come very close and almost hit each other at the center point. The duration for one cycle was 4-5 sec.

ANOTHER two craft doing the same thing about 4-5 miles away over Mt. View.

Total of 4 ships making BIG figure eights. As I say each group of two at 90' to each other. The loops or light trails were oriented on North, South, East, West directions.

After about 35-40 min. I said out loud "is that all you've got"? 5-10 sec. later a red light detached itself and made an erratic path away and down before fading out. A white light did the same a few seconds later. I was getting bored and went inside. As an experiment I turned on my stereo to check for RF interference. Scanned the dial, some intermitant noisy static on 104.5 FM. My AM was not hooked up to the antenna at that time. I got a phone call from a friend. I thought it was to tell about me about the lights, but she hadnt seen them. I told her go outside and look in the sky. A few minutes later she comes back to tell me, it's "search lights". They were not search lights, there was NO beam up into the sky and they were moving far too fast. It is hard to credit your senses that you are seeing what you are seeing when looking at ufo's.

About 15 min. later I went back outside and noticed that one of the "flowers", (two ships) are gone and only the Sunnyvale two remains. Then I heard bam bam bam bam bam bam, six pops. Gunfire from behind me (north), real close. Somebody shooting at them! I thought "thats stupid", their too high.

Just then a ship comes from the area of the gunfire sounds. It was about 100 ft. away from me (east). Moving about 25 mph. It cleared the power lines by 10 ft. So however tall the high tension lines are, add 10 ft. It was dark but I got the impression it looked like a "top", (Ya know, the childs toy?) it had a light on the top and the bottom. One was red, one was white. I dont remember which color light was where. Probably the size of a car or truck, not very big. It leisurely made its way south-west towards Wolfe Ave. There are other details of this sighting and later events I'll leave out.

While all this was going on I counted 16-18 aircraft in the sky. Apparently the miltary and whoever else was watching too. Pretty spectacular. But I never heard a word from the TV news or radio or people talking, anywhere. Not even a report on THIS website by anybody. During this time frame, 1988-91 I saw a lot of ufo's.

Date may be approximate. We believe that conventional aircraft, or perhaps advertising lights of some sort, would be the first possibility to be ruled out during an investigation of the sighting. Sunnyvale is where Moffett Field is located, which is a major U. S. government research center, so perhaps the event was the result of some type of work or display conducted there. If this had been a genuine UFO-related event, we suspect that hundreds of reports would have been generated, and the incident would be well known among present-dayUFO investigators. However, I have never heard of the incident before this report. We would welcome other reports, if others were witness to the incident. PD

Huge green glowing cigar shaped craft observed flying at treetop level over Sunnyvale.

I am not sure of the year this happened.

I worked swing shift at Hewlett Packard and my boyfriend and I were driving on Hollenbeck Avenue at 23:30, just after leaving work.

We pulled over and stopped when we saw a huge glowing green cigar shaped craft hovering at tree top level parallel to Hollenbeck Avenue. It looked larger than a football field and had no windows visible, just a medium green glow all over. It made no sound, and was not a blimp.

We were shocked to see it over a heavily populated area and watched it silently fly over the houses.

The next day it was all over the news, and there was an article in the San Jose Mercury News paper. The radio news reports said that although it was near Moffet Field Air Base, airbase personnel said it did not belong to them and they could not identify the object. It was seen by many people.

large blue light with no sound; was unable to move

Time between 9PM & midnight. Walking home late with hubby and suddenly noticed a very large blue light in the sky. It seemed very low, perhaps just because of the size. A fist held at arm's length would just about contain it. It crossed our path on a diagonal, moving very slowly. It continued (as best I am aware of) without any pauses.

I stopped just because it caught my attention. My mind raced to explain what I was seeing. The best I've been able to come up with is a helicopter with an all-glass front that was illuminated so brightly from within that nothing was visible except the light.

But this doesn't explain the hardest part to comprehend. It made absolutely no sound whatsoever.

I'm not sure of how long I stood there frozen in my tracks. I could not move. I was scared and wanted to run, but I could not move.

Next, I was walking (not running) home again. The last I saw it, it was directly overhead. I did not turn back to see it once I could move again (which makes no sense to me at all). I had no fear of "it" following me. I fully remembered all of what I've written here; there was no amnesia of seeing this light. The moon doesn't move that quickly across the sky and the fluidity of the movement (in my opinion) rules out anything like "swamp gas." ~~~~~~~~ I saw another light in the late 70s in Virginia; it was green, smaller, and higher in altitude.

And in '76 or '77, a metallic object that was NOT shiny. Sort of a rust color. Could be termed cigar-shaped, or could be a disc seen at such an angle that it appeared elongated. This was near Pittsburgh, PA.

Hard to describe floating box scared the heck out of two teenage girls many years ago

I've never told anyone about this. It's extremely hard to describe what I saw but even though it happened so many years ago I will never forget it. The best I can do is describe it in symbolic terms because it can't be explained otherwise. Kind of like Ezekiel described his wheel inside a wheel, it was the best he could do, I'll have to try to do the same using symbols that are familiar to me but that I know are terribly insufficient to the task.

That said, this was in the summer of 1971. My friend and I had snuck out of our houses around 10pm after our parents had gone to bed. Being teenagers we just liked to meet at night and go for walks and talk. We were very young, innocent kids. There were no alcohol or drugs in our lives, we were stone sober coming back home from our walk that night.

It was about 11pm when we were walking down the sidewalk on Remington Street. This is a very long, straight, wide residential street, two lanes on each side of the road. About a quarter mile or so ahead was an intersection with a four way traffic light. The night was absolutely still, there was nobody out and nobody's house lights were on. Our town was sound asleep. As we walked down the sidewalk my friend was chatting endlessly as was her way and I was looking at my shoes when she suddenly stopped and said, "What is that?" I looked up and I also stopped. On the other side of the intersection a good long way away, probably a full five minute walk ahead, there was something hovering in the sky, pretty low, about the height of the tops of the street light poles. It was absolutely silent. This thing was moving very slowly forward, and every once in a while it would stop for a couple of seconds, as if it were looking, surveying, or something. We stood there absolutely transfixed and didn't say a word to each other as we watched it slowly come toward the intersection.

Across the intersection on the left side of the street there were half a dozen two story apartment buildings, and on the right side was the open field of our old middle school. This thing that I'd say was about the size of a 20 to 30 foot boat was just slowly gliding down the middle of the street and then it turned a little and hovered over to the apartments. It hovered over the roofs ever so slowly, going up a little and then down a little, as if it were checking them out. At the second apartment building back from the intersection it was possible to get a better look at the thing.

It's extremely hard to describe this and it will sound very strange but to be clear, I can't really grasp what I was seeing. It was impossible. It made no sense. But there it was anyway. It didn't have any lights and it didn't look metallic. The closest description I can find is that it looked kind of like wood. Like a square ship made of wooden beams. It was brown, and hollow on the inside without a top. It had these great enormous arms on the sides that slowly swiveled around and they had lines on the ends, like ropes, but they weren't ropes. There were also shapes and objects inside the opening but I couldn't give a description, I was only aware that it wasn't hollow space inside there. It was as if this thing was collecting things.

While we were watching it, it did not seem to be aware of us at all, but then, all of a sudden that changed. It's angle changed and it came away from the buildings and back into the street. It began to speed up heading toward us and as it hovered over the intersection, because of the street lights, we were able to get a good clear look at it. That's when both of us became absolutely terrified. It was looking right at us. It took on an aggressive feel, its back end rising up and the front end lowering, like it was strongly checking us out. I mean to tell you we were scared. We both felt in fear for our lives. I have never been so afraid. It's hard to talk about this the fear comes rushing right back.

That thing began to head right for us and my friend said, "We've got to get out of here". She took off running and I just followed her. She was heading home. What was so scary was that between us and that thing was one side street and we had to get to it before it did so we were running as fast as we could, right towards it, and I was terrified and literally praying we'd get to that street. Somehow we both knew that if we turned that corner we'd be okay. We didn't talk about this until afterward but we had to get to that street or something unthinkable would happen to us.

We did get to that street and we ran around the corner nearly hysterical with terror when we ran smack into her father, who had come out looking for his daughter. Even though he was very angry we were so happy to see him at that moment and we quickly told what had just happened. He walked to the corner and looked down the street and saw nothing. Nothing was there anymore. He could see that we were not making things up, that we were truly scared and panicked, but he dismissed it and said it was probably just a weather balloon. If I am sure of anything it is that that thing was no weather balloon.

I know this is a very unusual description of a sighting but I am sharing it in the hope that maybe some other people have seen this thing or something like it, and they will know they're not alone and they're not crazy. I am telling it like it was and have no reason to make up a story. It doesn't matter if I am believed or not, I know what I saw.

Two fast and low disks haulin' a**

I was ten years old. I went outside to the lawn area next to the pool where our apartment manager was setting up tables for later in the day, to have a BBQ and get together. It was still early and no one was setting off their fireworks yet. We lived only 3-4 miles from Moffet NAS. I heard a very deep rumbling sound which I knew was a sonic boom. But it was deeper and louder than I had ever heard before. We both looked up at exactly the right moment to see two or three eliptical disks swoop over very low and fast. The low one that caught my attention was dull silver on the bottom but burnished orange on the side and top from the reflected sunlight. It was only 150 feet off the ground. They may have been playing 'chicken' to see who could fly lower. The higher one(s), were identical but I did not see any sunlight reflect off of it (them). They were a little bit bigger across than the wingspan of a P-3 Orion sub-chaser, of which I saw everyday in those years. It happened so fast I only got a good look at the lower craft. After they went by I looked at the manager and said "Did you see those... I was was going to say, flying saucers, until I noticed his face was white as a sheet. So I said ...rockets". He went inside, probably to get a drink. I thought to myself "Well, flying saucers yeah, their real what's the big deal?" The only question I had at that time and still have whenever I see ufo's, (14 other sightings) is who does it belong to? Ours or theirs? Whoever these guys are they have a flight path that comes in low from the Pacific in a straight line from Daly City down to Sunnyvale then onward. Fun fact. Line it up on a map and it continues down to Southern Nevada. They usually come in on July 4th or close to it. Examples of other fly-ins I've noticed, 8:30pm 7-2-87 VERY loud boom. Approx. 12:45am 7-5-91. This leads me to believe that it may be a re-supply of some kind for "alien" personel. As our guys usually have federal holidays off. Fair warning for '03. Try to see them.
