Driving on the highway 5 going north, there was 3 white bright lights shaped liked disks coming in a straight line, it looked like it was coming straight to our car on the highway it was very close (less than half a mile away from us). As it got closer it went up and changed shape to a triangle and changed it's path to go right. It flew away so fast and changed shapes again.

White light flashes at Mercey Hot Springs, yet again!

Another night soaking at Mercey Hot Springs, looking at the numerous stars and planets. I've seen whatever this is occur about five different times now at various evening times, during different seasons over the years.

This time my brother was there with me and also observed the phenomena. It's a bright, silent white light that flashes anywhere from one to four times per instance. They are brighter than the planes going by or the stars in the sky.

This time they were in a different part of the sky, and it happened two separate times. As I have seen this occurance before, we were watching and waiting for it to happen, and we weren't disappointed. My brother conjectured that they are maybe meteors coming directly at us? But, we really have no idea what they are.

This is the first time I've observed it twice in one night.

We also saw readily indentifiable planes, meteors and satellites, as usual on a clear night.

Formation or cluster of five lights catapulting and zooming dramatically near the I-5 freeway at night

I was driving rapidly north on US Interstate 5 (I-5) shortly after dark, about 15 miles west of Firebaugh, California.

Ahead of me (a hundred meters perhaps) I saw a cluster of five lights in several indeterminate/shifting colors moving rapidly from east to west about 10 meters above the freeway, in a downward trajectory.

Then as my car reached the place where the lights were coming down, I slowed down, and observed through the driver's side window as the lights seemed to fold into themselves and lift up again abruptly into the air.

I looked back at the car's outside side-mirror and saw the lights continue to ascend behind me in the far distance. Then suddenly (within one second) again I saw them directly through the side window, parallel to my car, only about 10 meters above the ground; and then they zoomed across the freeway at a sharp angle in front of me (perhaps 50 meters in front of me), going from west to east, ascending rapidly and vanishing from my ! sight.

As I say, the lights "folded into themselves." What I mean is that I didn't perceive this as a solid object or "craft" with a particular shape, with lights mounted on certain features of it, etc., as one would see on an airplane. The lights were just lights, flying in a formation that remained generally triangular; but with additional dimensions.

They continued this "folding" and "unfolding" the whole time I observed, though at first I didn't perceive it that way.

I didn't perceive there to be any "mass" to it, apart from the lights. The lights sort of catapulted and cartwheeled within themselves, inside a certain defined space that itself was in motion.

Over the course of a few seconds, my thoughts evolved as follows:

1. Is that an overpass up ahead with a big truck crossing it? I think it's crashing!

2. Oh wait, it's some kind of airplane, coming in to land, is there an airport right there on the left? I don't think so... I think it's crashing!

3. Oh, it didn't crash, it's flying very acrobatically; maybe it's a crop-duster? At night?!

4. Ha!!! This is definitely a UFO! Those lights are moving very strangely! Where's my camera... OK found it... Too late, damn it, it's way back there now... I bet I see it again though... Ha! Here it is again!!!

If I were to compare the motion of the lights (& their folding/unfolding) to something I've seen before: I would say it resembled the motion of "nunchakus" (the Chinese martial arts weapon) when being used by an expert.

As you may have seen in old Bruce Lee films, nunchakus are essentially two sticks connected at one end by a short chain. Imagine that there was a light on each end of both sticks, and one on the middle of the chain; imagine that an expert was using them, but in somewhat slower motion than usual. That's roughly how it looked as they wheeled about through the air.

Another weapon that the lights and their motion resembled is the "primitive" hunting tool, the bolo. Two or three rocks are tied together in a certain way, and hunters skillfully throw this cluster at the target. It is sort of like a boomerang, but with less form.

I could also suggest that it's motion was like something you might see in a very simple kaleidoscope.

I did not notice any particular sound associated with what I saw.

If I were to estimate the size of this cluster of lights: Perhaps 5-10 meters in diameter at any particular moment? As I say, it didn't seem to be a solid object.

By the time the lights came "back" to me I had found my camera on the seat beside me. I took one picture through the side window and one through the front windshield. Both pictures came out poorly; it was dark inside the car, the lights were moving and I was holding the camera rather unsteadily as I drove. In the picture through the side window, one sees two parallel streaks of light, moving horizontally but beginning to ascend. They look like two snakes, racing. In the picture through the front, the lights look like bright parallel streaks, sort of curved, ascending sharply. At the time, I didn't perceive them this way. I think the streak-effect is from the motion of the lights, the motion of my car, and my camera's slow "automatic" shutter speed in the dark.

It should be noted that there are several military airfields in the region, including at least one where testing of aircraft takes place (or used to take place). The Crow's Landing Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, which supposedly closed in 1999, is about 70 miles to the northwest. Many experimental aircraft were tested there, including projects with NASA. I find evidence, though, that NASA may still be doing things at this base, despite the fact that its buildings have been demolished.

On a web site dedicated to "Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields" of California, there is the following comment (corroborated by a map-detail): "Even though Crows Landing is labeled as closed on the March 2013 Sectional Chart... a note still indicates “NASA flight test operations conducted in this area below 2,500' MSL.”

Another military airbase in the region is Lemoore Naval Air Station, about 60 miles southeast.

Conducting military test flights (especially of secret bizarre aircraft) at such low altitudes and high speeds, so near to hundreds of cars driving north and south on the freeway, would seem an incredibly stupid idea.

Even so, it may still have been an experimental military or NASA aircraft of some kind, perhaps a newfangled "drone." Or perhaps it was something else.

White Flashing Object Over Mercey Hot Springs For The Fourth Time!!

Same thing for the FOURTH time now, same part of sky, observed while soaking in the hot tub again.

I'm thinking this must be an iridium flare, however, it appeared the the flashing white light changed course and went upwards.

This time, it flashed three times in fairly quick succession.

No noise, as usual.

I've seen this at different times of the year, but approximately the same place in the sky and the same time of night.

This is the third time that I have seen this same exact thing in the same place, same part of the sky,

whilst soaking in the hot tub at Mercey Hot Springs. A flash of a bright white star like object, one flash only this time, high up in the sky.

Could this be an iridium flare? I have no idea!

More flashing white lights above Mercey Hot Springs

Basically similar to my previous sighting I reported back on April 30. I was soaking in the hot tub again at Mercey Hot Springs gazing at the blanket of stars when I saw two flashes of bright white light with no accompanying sound from a moving object flying from southwest to the northeast. It was in the same part of the sky as the last sighting. I'm wondering if these might be iridium flares?

Also, I saw several shooting stars, a satellite, and numerous planes again to compare it with.

Appeared to be the size of a large UFO with 3 perfectly round bright white lights, flying 100' off of ground, very slow & silent.

While driving home from San Luis Obispo, CA at approximately 2120 at night, on interstate 5 going North between the Little Panoche Road and Firebaugh CA Exits we saw an unidentified aircraft flying at approximately 100' off the ground. The aircraft was only visible by the 3 large, round, bright white lights that were evenly spaced in a row horizontally. The lights seemed to be about 4 times larger than a car headlight with no other visible lights and we could not make out the shape of the body. Just by looking at the lights and how they were spread out horizontally I would guess that the span of the aircraft would be that of the wing span of a 737 aircraft. We saw the aircraft fly very slowly directly ahead of and in front of us. As the aircraft was on the passenger side of the car, I remarked to my wife to "watch that aircraft, it looks like it is going to land, make an emergency landing", I kept on saying, "watch it, keep an eye on it....! keep on watching it". Then as it came around to the east side of our car and crossed the highway going from the east to the west it quietly flew past and flew around on the west side of the freeway. We thought it was an aircraft that was coming in for an emergency landing, as it was flying at an incredibly slow speed and very low to the ground. The aircraft was silent or at least very quiet because we heard no noise as it passed overhead in front of us. The car windows were up and the radio was on, but something flying that low and slow would have made some noise and turbulence as it passed over, we noticed no noise or abnormal movement of our car from the passing craft. The craft then flew around on the west side of the freeway, disappeared from view and then I saw it in my side and rear view mirrors, my wife also saw the craft as she turned around to look out the back windows. It maneuvered slowly and smoothly unlike any airliner, small aircraft or helicopter w! ould appear to fly. We saw it for what seemed to be approxima! tely 1-2 minutes until we were somewhat farther down the highway and could no longer see the aircrafts lights. I am an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter that has worked at an airport and around aircrafts for over 21 years and I have never seen that configuration of 3 round, large, equally space bright white lights on any aircraft and It seemed to maneuver like no other aircraft that I have seen flying.

White Flashing Object Over Mercey Hot Springs

While soaking in the hot tub staring at the beautiful, starry sky, all of a sudden a bright flash of pure white light caught my eye. I continued to watch and about thirty seconds or so later, I observed another brief flash once again and whatever it was had moved slightly in a horizontal manner.

In all, there were four small irregular flashes from the star-like object over several minutes, and then no more. The event happened a short way below the Big Dipper, and the object appeared to be travelling northwest to southeast.

There was no noise. The light seemed brighter than the ones on the planes that flew by in the same spot about five minutes later, and I could also clearly hear their engine noises. I also observed three small meteors and a dim sattelite flying over later, so I had just about every familiar airborne object to compare it to.

Conditions were a warm Spring evening with slightly high level haze and virtually no wind after sunset.

Mercey Hot Springs is located approximately 34 miles from the nearest town so there is no artificial light to interfere with sky watching, and the moon didn't rise until about four hours later.

Was it a UFO or some strange goverment experiment; or was it simply a kid's prank in the middle of nowhere?

I had a really weird experience last weekend...Don't know what to believe anymore...

We were driving back from Los Angeles, CA to my home in San Jose, CA and were on the I-5 near the Firebaugh area. I knew I was here since my GPS in my car showed me that area.

Suddenly there was heavy fog which almost made me not see the road and I slowed down a bit, after the fog somewhat cleared, I saw two lights like the headlights of a car going alongside my car in my window. First I thought it might be a reflection but there was no other cars around me for miles that I could see. I took my window down to see more closely. It seemed like a glider of some sort so my first thought was that maybe its some sort of radar device which the government uses to check speeds of vehicles on the highways or a helicopter. But it none of those. Then it glided down really smoothly and quite beautifully almost touching the ground giving me an idea it was landing. I was looking ahead and looking at it at the same time and slowed my car a bit also.

Being honest, at that point I was a little scared as the object without landing just took off again and went over in front of me over the highway across and it cast two lights in the field. The lights were just like ordinary white lights throughout but the object seemed like it was spinning. It stood in the field for about 5-10 seconds casting those lights in a triangulated fashion really beautifully. The object suddenly turned from there and came straight for my car, the lights from it were really bright, almost blinding; at which point I was getting paranoid that whatever it was going to hit my car. But it came on the top of my car and was gone! Yes it was just gone, disappeared totally. I also looked into my back mirror but there was nothing there except absolute darkness. I took the next exit for the gas station and a little while later an SUV stopped from which a lady emerged and I tried to ask her if she saw something. But I guess it was the time of the night, I saw the look in her eyes which was telling me I'm some kind of weirdo...I was yelling for my friends to wake up as they were sleeping but they confirmed to me later they did see some kind of light as at that point they had woken up.

I do not know what to make out of it but I know what I saw and it lasted for a good minute or maybe more. It was just a beautiful object, what it was I think I'll never know but what I saw I'll never be able to forget.

Three Shiny Diamond shaped lights in triangle formation.

July 17th, Driving south on I-5 towards L.A. at Firebaugh exit, I was traveling in right lane in my '71 bug. I was doing 65 in a 70 mph, and a line of cars was trying to pass me on a small rise, but the lead car in the passing lane was unable to overtake me (it was an older late 60's rambler) so there were three cars behind the rambler pushing it down the road trying to get passed us. As we are driving neck and neck, with the couple seemingly unable to pass me, off to the left in a field, about 60 yards beyond the fenceline, three shiny diamond shape lights doing erratic swirling motions were visible to me. I notice that the elderly couple next to me is also watching the lights. This caused a noticeable reaction in all four cars as our spped was momentarily reduced to see what was causing it, and then the speed was stepped back up. The passenger was an elderly woman with horn-rimmed spectacles, and an elderly man who I assumed was her husband was driving. I look back at the road and these 3 diamond-shaped lights are now at about 10 o'clock towards the east as we are driving south. The lights would move from a triangular formation, break away and do some fast manuevers, and then regroup. This went on for a few minutes. The next manuever placed them fifty feet off to the left of the roadside, where they regrouped and instead of the diamonds revovling as they had done previously while in formation, they now deliberately and simultaneously reflected our headlights back at us, nearly blinding us. I look to my left, and the elderly couple looks back at me as if pleading me to let them over, but I continue to hold the gas pedal to the floor and maintain my speed. I loo at the cars behind them and I can see that their interiors are lit up so brightly I can make out the drivers blue shirt and red tie in the car behind the elderly couple in the rambler. I turn back and look at the three lights and say to myself, "who are you?" I then had the prescience to think they may be reading mymind, so I beg! an to chant "No, NO, NO!" The elderly couple was obviously scared and wanted over, but I continued forward at the same rate of speed. The lights grew so bright that I was blinded and could no longer see the road at all. This lasted five to ten seconds, after which the lights disappeared, the cars behind me roared by, and I found myself alone, still driving on the highway. I pulled over at the very next exit, maintaining my gaze on the three diamond shaped lights as they sped up into the sky in a rotating circle around each other until they blended into the night sky. At this point I awoke my then girlfriend and asked her if she could see the three lights spinning like a top up in the starfield. She very annoyedly said, "that's a helicopter, stupid!" and just as she said that it streaked across the entire visible mountain range to the horizon as fast as I could wave my arm. I said to her, "OK, so was THAT a helicopter?' She started yelling at me for waking her up, etc.. I told her to go ahead and go back to sleep, that I just needed her reassurance that I was not seeing things. We made it back home to Tucson, AZ. I tried to tell a few people about it, but they became very uncomfortable, and I quit telling the story. I have since travelled back through the area, and although it has been some time, I still can remember it all like it was yesterday. The most eery feeling I got upon revisiting it was I began to wonder what happened to the elderly couple who was unable to overtake my VW that night, and why they had suddenly left my field of vision so suddenly. I began to have the suspicion that they may have been abducted, because there was no physical way they could have pulled away like that with the pack of cars, otherwise they would have done just that, only much sooner, considering their obvious fright. I know the other cars in the passing lane trying to pass me witnessed the entire event. Like I said, I could see what they were wearing, as there cars interiors were also illuminated from the back reflecti! on of our headlights being shined back at us.

It was the summer that 4th of July came out and the people I told this story to thought I was acting out a fantasy from the movie, but I hadn't even seen the movie.

I also did not believe in UFO's before that experience.

In late 1987 while driving south on I-5, I witnessed a UFO for approx 15-20 min.

While driving along, approx 10 or 11 pm, I-5 was pretty deserted, it was the middle of the week. I noticed a car pulled over to the side of the shoulder, and then a few hundred feet further another car pulled over to the side of shoulder. The passengers of this second car, two people, a male & female were standing in front of their car with a flash light pointing it straight up towards the sky and turning it off & on, like they were signaling to something.

I thought what the heck are these people doing??? I slowed down and had to lean over the wheel and look up to my right to see what they were signaling to. Once I saw, I immediately pulled over to the side of road also.

I pulled over about maybe 15 or so car lenghts in front of this car and immediatley turned off the engine and lights and then began to watch the object. The object was to the right of my car, approx five or six car lenghts off the shoulder and then approx about a telephone poll and half up into the sky. I can't measure real well in approx feet which is why I'm using objects to describe this.

The object that I saw was so close to me and so close to the ground but yet it just hung there, no sound or vibration at all, absolute silent, and very, very, big.

I am very hesitant to give all the details over the internet however, I will say that in looking over your site I found one VERY close and similar incident which follows -

What I saw, and I know the other two people saw as well , was a triangle of lights. Becasue this incident was so close to me there was absolutly no mistaking what I saw. I know that this was a craft of some sort, however, not something of our world. I'm no expert but I feel very confident that planet earth does not possess the capabilities to do what this craft did. Additionally, the entire time I watched this object I had the very distinct and real feeling that someone, or some thing, was watching me back. I'm posting this today becsue of the sighting that I referenced above. This happened to me at approx the same area. I was just about 2 or 3 miles from the Firebaugh exit on I-5. After viewing this object, which eventually traveled straight up into the cloud covering and disappeared, I immediately drove to the first gas station there at the Firebaugh exit and phoned my mother to tell her what had just happened.

This experience happened to me in 1987 almost ten years ago, however, I remember every detail as though it happened ten minutes ago. I would like an investigator to contact me if at all possible as this experience bothers me a great deal. I simply can not forget it.
