I stepped outside to grab something from my truck and noticed how bright the moon was. While I was looking at it, I turned toward the east and saw a bright light in the sky. It was kind of above me at first, then it suddenly shot off really fast into the sky. It all happened so quickly, I didn’t even have time to react. I’m sure it wasn’t a drone—no drone has a light that bright—and it definitely wasn’t a plane because it moved way too fast. The light was super bright, brighter than anything I’ve ever seen. It didn’t disappear behind the houses like it had fallen—it looked like it flew straight out into the sky until I couldn’t see it anymore. It looked kind of like an orb, but also like a really bright light. It wasn’t Starlink or a shooting star—it was bigger and brighter than both, and it moved fast in a straight line heading east.

A zig zag stream of white with a central light moving from it creating a round span of white equidistant from the center and all around

I first saw a zig zag of white in the night sky and coming from it was a small white light. As the light traveled it created a white cloudy roundness equidistant from the light.

Long line of lights moving silently across the sky.

We noticed a string of lights moving across the sky above our house, from West to East at pretty high altitude. We counted 30, but there may have been more. They moved at a consistent rate of speed, and they were spaced out fairly evenly, although the spaces between them varied somewhat. There was no aircraft noise of any kind. We tried to record video on a phone, but the individual lights were not bright enough to show up. We watched until the lines of lights ended. It was very eerie.

String of lights/orbs, about 20+, slowly moving in a single line of various spacing in central California, may witnesses

At 5:25am PST I walked into our backyard to check on our dog.

Something caught my eye in the sky and looked up, southern skies towards Fresno, Ca.

What I saw made me freeze, it was a perfect string of lights, almost like airplanes if my brain was trying to confirm what I saw. Not even in spacing but very close together. Almost like a Christmas string of lights, they were moving at a steady but not rushed pace until they disappeared from view.

I posted on Facebook what I saw and immediately four of my friends who were just leaving their workout all saw it. Another friend's husband recorded them.

Nobody has any idea what they were...

Bright white ring over Merced

At approximately 17:00 Hrs. on Saturday July 18, 2020 Spotted a bright object hovering nearly directly overhead at Latitude 037 deg. 19' 34.0062 N, Longitude -120 deg.-28' -49.7484 W.

Looked at object with Binoculars and it appeared to be a bright ring of light. Called a family member who is approximately 4 miles away at Latitude 037deg. 19' 52.0422 N , Longitude -120 deg. -28 -44.5434 W. He also looked at the objected with binoculars and identified it as having a bright ring. The object remained in place as the sun and began to dim as the sun approached the horizon. As the object dimmed I began to see a bright flashing white light in the center of the ring. At about 5 minutes after sunset the ring had completely faded away and the flashing light was no longer visible.

Extraordinary bright light descended from W, heading E under clouds, then ascended.

I was locking my gate as I do every night around the same time. As I'm locking I look into the sky only to see a light resembling a star slowly getting brighter as if it was descending. I felt this was clearly not an airplane or helicopter. I ran up my stairs into my apartment to retrieve my phone. I stepped out to the top of my steps, facing to the West, and began recording. As I adjust my aperture on my phone the object goes out of focus then back into focus. There is an airplane in the background heading South-SouthEast.

As I proceed to record the object changes direction to the North and it ascends at an unprecedented speed into the stars. During the sighting I was motionless and amazed at the sighting. Almost in disbelief that what I was witnessing was truly happening. Upon reentering my apartment where my girlfriend was watching television. I remained speechless as I tried to gather the words to describe to her what I had seen. I had a euphoric sensati! on and I was extremely happy and excited. An absolutely remarkable experience.

Around midnight on Wednesday March 1, 2017 I was walking across my back patio. I was stopped in my tracks because I noticed a very large and very still orange orb above my roof line in the night sky. It began to move or dance around for about what I believe to be about 10 seconds. It then seemed to lose interest in me and then slowly go upward and disappear into the night sky. It was late at night and neither the town or the orb made any noise. There was no wind and I heard no traffic. I went inside and went to bed as though nothing special had happened.

I did not remember the event for two days. I don't know why and that still bothers today. I can't begin to describe how I felt when I did remember. I must have replayed the event in my mind a thousand times. I still do.

It has taken a lot of courage for me to write this because I believe my sighting is different than most people who have seen orbs.

On Friday March 1, 2019 exactly two years the day, my wife of 39 years died on that patio no more than four feet from where I stood when I saw that orb. I don't want to see another one.

So to whoever is reading this I want to thank you for your time.

Very bright orange stars moving down and then north, West of my location.

From my backyard, looking due West. I see two bright orange stars, 10 times brighter than the brightest star. Both are descending from 30 degrees to let's say 25 degrees altitude, due West from my perspective. Separated from each other by about two inches at arm length. Each light was horizontal to one another other. After two or so minutes descending very slowly, they changed direction due North (moving one or two feet to the right, at arm's length.) The whole event lasted 5-10 minutes, or so, before each light disappeared, one after another after a 2-3 minute interval. The event repeated itself, identically.

Orange/rust colored Oval type object in Merced on the Fourth of July

While shooting fireworks, I noticed my daughter not looking toward the show, but up toward the sky. I asked if she was okay and she pointed her phone.

Curious I asked what she was doing and she kept asking me if I saw "it". She said it was an orangish/coppery rust color and it just faded away.

The area below where she sighted the object is a fallow field, with dry brush, so there was no fireworks being shot over the area for fear of fires.

The next morning she showed me her picture she took. She originally thought she didn't get it but in the morning light found it on her phone as you can see by the picture, it is difficult to see.

We did not hear anything and there was no smoke trail. The object seemed to show up and vanish quietly with not lights.

Strange flickering lights appeared in Merced Co., that appeard to be attatched in groups by threads of light, just before vanishing.

My neighbor had been outside with me last night (3/20/15) and as we were smoking our cigarettes. She was stuck on a star....the only one in the whole sky, and it appeared to change colors.

Then tonight my brother comes knocking shortly after midnight and I happen to look at the sky and saw a crazy round like barrier or out line in the sky being created by the lights. Each light moved in a slow sway motions, reflecting an almost completely transparent threat like light, which connect them in specified groups. Each time we heard the strange kind of baritone rumble in the sky only a few would zip full speed ahead and vanquish.

I made an attempt to photograph on laptop but my laptop shut down every time I took it outside.

Formation of 19 fluttering lights flying over central California, right after earthquake.

12 people witnessed 19 blue fluttering lights coming from the northeast, headed in a south eastern direction.

We couldn't identify any shapes, and went from the time we saw them to the time they disappeared into the horizon it took approximately 30-40 seconds.

They were flying in a random pattern, and it looked as if one of the lights had fallen behind and had to speed up to catch up to the rest.

So after we had heard there was a 6.5 earthquake in Napa Valley a few hours away.

Merced CA Bright red lights flashing in line sequence

I was driving south on highway 99 south. as I was crossing Merced CA, I saw out of the corner of my eye some red lights flashing in the sky. I noticed it because they were very bright in a far distance and flashing but formed a line with one higher than the others.

I pulled over to get a better look. After pulling over with in a couple of minutes they started to fly away in the opposite direction of mine started flshing and dispursed (disappeared) one and two at a time. I was amazed. And Scared.

I am not sure where to report it.

This took place at 9:00pm more or less.

There is videos that look exactly like what I saw on you tube. so obviously i'm not the only one who seen this. And at different dates.

Two bright dots, moving west to east, viewed in a telescope

At 11:45, on August 09, 2014, a police officer at Merced College asked me (I am an astronomy Professor), what the object in the sky is. He pointed to a bright dot of light that was approximately at zenith and a magnitude brightness of about (-2). The officer said that he was reported about the object about 15 minutes earlier. The skies were clear blue, and the sun was bright, almost at zenith.

I set up the colleges 5 inch Celestron telescope with a 20mm objective.

Under magnification, the object was indeed a disc with what appeared to be a set of “lights” in the 0-90 degree quadrant of the circle. Another astronomy instructor, 2 more police officers and several students observed the object as it moved from zenith to the west. It covered about 25 angular degrees in the span of about 15 minutes. We took photographs of the object with cell phone cameras through the telescope.

While watching the object, an officer saw another, similar object coming in from the east, at about the same magnitude brightness. The object moved westward, until it was at zenith overhead and then continued west. The time it took to travel from an altitude of about 80 degrees to zenith was about 10 minutes. We observed this object under same magnification, and saw a silvery disc, with the same “lights” along the same quadrant.

Both objects left our view, passing westward. The entire viewing time was about 1.5 hours.

Our working hypothesis is that we saw Mylar balloons, or weather balloons, with the sunlight reflecting off the “dimples” along the edge of the balloon.

Circular, shiny, reflective object clearly observed in sky on August 9, 2013 at 11:00 am by several witnesses

This circular shiny object that appeared to be static in the sky did not make noise that we could hear. I first observed this object at 11 AM when I looked up into the trees. The object that was visible to the naked eye seemed unnatural to me. I called the attention to my adult daughter who agreed that we were not looking at something that was man-made.

I called 3 other people over to see this thing and they also had no explanation as to what this object was.

I also phoned my husband who, with several co-workers who work at the local college, went outside to see this "UFO". They had no explanation of its origins. They even observed it through a high powered telescope and it still appeared to be shiny, circular, and reflective.

I went home and was unable to see it at 2:30 as there was now a cloud-cover in the area. I will look again after the cloud-cover dissipates to see if it is still there.

Two bright unidentified flying objects appear in Northern night sky, Southeast bound in Merced, Ca.

Two very bright, orange-yellowish, shining lights  appear flying very low, overhead in the Northern night sky heading Southeast bound. Appearing to be about 4 or 5 times the size of the Northern Star, they fly significantly close underneath all the fog and clouds. They flew adjacent to each other and were pretty much flying in sync with each other, yet they each seemed to have an individual movement(like two cars driving side by side on a freeway). Seconds go by then the one on the left starts to fade or flicker out. Once the left one goes out, the one on the right follows right behind just mere seconds after.

Again, there were two objects observed. They appeared to have no structure, just very bright with an orange and yellow shine like  extremely radiant candle lights or illuminating orbs. Adjacent and almost in sync but still with an individual movement about them.

This happened between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., while celebrating Halloween. The weather was completely overcast.

The Moon and stars were nowhere to be seen and absolutely in no way, shape, or form, could be seen that night.

Other observers witnessed the same but were slightly intoxicated due to "the reason for the season." I was sober. I do not drink.

“UFO Report” What follows is an eye witness account of an unusual sighting as reported by my very lucid 78 year old mother who was driving on her way home from work in early July. She was compelled to pull off on the shoulder of the interstate and stop to better witness this unusual sighting. To my knowledge this is the first and only time in her 78 years that she has ever witnessed anything of this nature.

I’m a 58 year old former aviator; retired USAF veteran of 20 years, with thousands of hours of flight time on both the C-130E and the KC-10A. I have also accrued several thousand hours flight time on the commercial DC-10-40 under contract with Japan Airlines; I am now retired. I questioned and cross examined the witness my mother extensively about the particulars of this sighting, asking her to write down the details for her family as I thought it was unusual and important; she did not get around to it so the task fell to me. She is not prone to flights of fancy and is very much a reflection of the no-nonsense generation that suffered through the Great depression and WWII. I only wish I had seen something this amazing and unusual just once in all my years of flying.

Date: July 8th or 9th 2012 during the evening hours at the onset of dusk; approximately 2000 ~ 2100 hrs local PST. Sunset for Los Banos (a small town nearby) was listed as occurring at 2026 L on both days.

Location: Approximately 7 miles past the town of Santa Nella, traveling north on interstate 5 (I-5). Sighting was witnessed at this locale from the side of the interstate and adjacent to a farm and residential property several hundred feet west of interstate and just north of a large telecom tower, also on the west side as viewed on Google-map using satellite view.

Duration: approximately 1 ~ 2 minutes? Description of objects: 4 illuminated spheres, pale red in color and flying in a box or square formation as they traversed the interstate from east to west (right to left in witnesses field of vision). They appeared to be at an altitude of approximately 300 feet elevation, and may have been about the size of grapefruits or as large as basketballs, as it was difficult to determine exactly. They were silent and did not make any noise or sound whatsoever.

The four orbs or spheres continued crossing the interstate, leisurely headed in the direction of a residential farmhouse. During this portion of their flight they changed position to resemble (in the words of the witness) a cigar-shape, with one red-sphere at each end and one on each side. The witness tried desperately to ascertain if they were attached to a structure in any way, but could not make out anything solid or otherwise that would appear to connect them. By now they were over the farmhouse and momentarily seemed to disappear behind it. Next the witness noted that they (or it) just shot straight up into the sky at a very high rate of speed, further noting that if she had blinked she might have missed their departure thinking they (it) had just vanished.

WX: Was clear with no clouds or obstructions to hamper line of sight.

There were no other witnesses to her knowledge as the interstate was briefly deserted at this particular moment with no passing traffic; which may seem unusual but is certainly not impossible for brief periods of time at this location.

I observed a object that caused multiple vehicles to pull off the freeway to look.

On Monday, April 16, 2012, I was traveling from San Jose, California to Los Angeles, California. I traveled from 101 Southbound and got onto 152 Eastbound. I was on 152 E. for approximately 20 minutes (15 miles) before I observed numerous vehicles pulling to the side of the highway and exiting their vehicles. I saw this going on for several minutes and just figured there was a military plane or helicopter and continued driving. After another minute I saw some Semi-Trucks pulling over and determined that it must be something of importance, as they have a very heavy load and it’s difficult to stop the Semi-Trucks on the side of the freeway. This was at 7:34 a.m.

As I exited my vehicle there were multiple people on the other side of the freeway looking in a particular spot. I immediately grabbed my video camera that is equipped with a 40x Optical zoom and located the object. I was in complete disbelief because I personally have never believed in UFO’s and though it was a bunch of fairy tail stories. Once I continued to zoom in and out on the object, I realized it was staying stationary and at a VERY high elevation. I’m not good at explaining the looks of an object, therefore; I’ll let the video speak my words.

After a couple of minutes I re-entered my vehicle and continued on 152 Eastbound. After a several minutes of driving and approximately 5 miles, I decided to get a different view/angle on the object if it was still in the sky. I pulled over next to a large lake off the freeway and went up a side dirt road. I positioned my vehicle and located the object again. This time I was further East and mostly got a large glare of the sun off the object. It almost appeared the object was glowing, but I think it was likely the sun. As I was video taping the object, a State Ranger drove bye my vehicle at a high rate of speed and though he saw me in a restricted area, he didn’t bother questioning me and appeared he was heading to a certain area of the lake.

I would like to indicate that the object appears to be moving in the video, but I did not have my camera on a tripod and due to the high power zoom, the camera was moving slightly in my hand and the object WAS NOT moving.

Object sighted above Pacheco Pass Highway 152 morning of 4/16/12

I was driving West on Highway 152 Pacheco Pass in Merced County on my way to work at approximately 7:00-7:15 AM. I was traveling approximately 80 mph in moderate traffic when I begun to crest the top of the Pass. I quickly noticed an object in the sky. My immediate thought was it was a Highway Patrol Aircraft patrolling, so I immediately slowed to 70 mph. I then noticed this object clearly did not have wings. I then thought it must be a helicopter of some type because it didn’t appear to be moving. The shape stood out to me as almost a pentagon shaped vessel and didn’t seem to have any distinct rotor or tail section. I would estimate its size to be slightly larger than a big SUV but it’s hard to estimate given the distance of I would guess 150-200 feet.

The object appeared to be white or a light grey. I did not see any lights or additional markings on the object. It struck me as strange because this object did not appear to be aero dynamic at all and it remained still. I was able to see it for a period of about 45 seconds continuously. At which point my position relative to the object was such that my roof prevented me from seeing it.

I wasn’t sure what it was, but didn’t pay much more attention to it. Then I noticed what was a moderate amount of traffic was now almost nonexistent. There were close to 60 vehicles pulled to the side of the road. I thought there may be an emergency so I began to slow even more and increase my awareness. Everyone seemed to be pulling over or already stopped and photographing or looking toward the sky.

I was late so I continued to work. I looked back several times to catch another glimpse of the object. I caught a short 3-4 second glimpse of the object which was now behind me. I am not sure if it was moving or not. The really strange thing is from this perspective (assuming it was the same object) has an elongated shape much narrower and taller than the original. I’m not saying it changed shape and I cannot be certain that it was the same object, only that the position in the sky seemed correct and it was also suspended in a similar manor.

Hoping to hear from one of the motorists pulled over who captured a photo or video.

Strobe white light that responds to flashlight signal.

This report is in response to 8/10/17 in LA Rue, Ohio. I work a grave yard shift for a University. During slow times of an evening, I am able to take short walks or just step outside for fresh air. I will find a spot where most of the light pollution is at its minimum. The exact date is not written down when I first saw the white bright single light strobe in the clear sky. When I saw it I thought it I might have had an optical problem from being tired or a twinkle from a distant star.

Continuing my stellular gaze, I definitely saw the distinct single bright strobe. Knowing that this was not something normal. Too close for a distant star and no other lights to not be an airplane. I flashed my powerful LED flashlight at area. The response was an immediate strobe of light back. WOW. What was that. I responded again. An immediate pulse of light back again. I walked to darker area to try and see what was the source. I flashed my light again. Another response. I could not see what was the light was coming from. I went three flights of stairs up to the roof where our cooling towers are and the darkest spot I knew of when the lights were off. I flashed my light in the general area and was immediately signal back. This went on for 20 more minutes. I was dumbfounded to what was happening. I had to leave and resume my normal operations. I had a very hard time trying to understand what had just happened and to this day still cannot! This has gone on and off all this time until 3 months ago.

I went on vacation for three weeks, and when I came back, the phenome has just stopped. There is so much more to the story. I had recruited other individuals to witness the strobe. They were able to verify that I had not completely gone mad by also witnessing the light. What or who is actually in the night sky is an exciting mystery. I wish I knew the source of that light some day.

I opened up my bedroom window when a flashing caught my eye. I went outside onto the patio and recorded several videos over the next couple of hours. There were 3 witnesses with myself at the time that I began to film the object. After comparing the videos, it is evident that the light moved in between the shooting of different clips, however I never actually witnessed it move. I didn't witness it do anything other than sit still and flash erratically, which was enough for me to shoot a few minutes of video and take a few still shots.

After viewing the pictures and videos I am more baffled than before. It sat stationary for so long that I eventually went inside and went to bed. One person said that flashing blue and red lights are a sign of a satellite, but I have never seen this before from our patio and will be observing the sky to see if I see it again.

As I was working on patrol I looked up at the clear night sky and notice a V-shape formation above me.

I am a law enforcement official and on april 18th, 2010 as I was working on patrol at approximately 0120 hrs.I was parked facing a south direction approximately 300 feet from Gst on Community Dr. (This is in the area of Merced College the College parking area lights were all off)

I then got off my vehicle and looked up at the clear sky, as I looked up in a north/east direction above me I notice a white V-shape formation approximately 100 yards width moving slow in a north/east direction. The V-shape formation had no sound to it. Then the V-shape formation broke up and got in to three smaller formations, with three objects in each formation. Each formation was now shape in a triangle formation. Two of the formation got closer together still heading in the same direction and the formation closer to me separated and headed north. The size of each object in the formation was the size of a small compact vehicle the object's were white in color with a haze's around them. As I staired at the formations for approximately 30 sec. They took off at a high rate of speed in their direction of travel.

I then got back into my vehicle and left the area heading north on Gst. to see if i could see the formation again. I got to the intersection of Gst and bellevue and headed east on bellevue and parked off the side of the road approximately 200 yards from Gst.

This area is in the county of Merced, CA, and is surrounded by fields and their is really no lights out in this area where I stopped.

The formation never came back over me.

Two low flying green lights near Hwy. 5 disappear in mid-air!

My friend and I were driving northbound back from Mercey Hot Springs in the darkness on Hwy. 5 just before the eastbound junction onto Hwy. 152 when we both looked horizontally over to our left about a mile or so away across an open area and saw two pale green lights, one brighter and larger and one smaller in a tight diagonal postion to each other, flying quickly along for a few seconds and then all of a sudden completely disappearing in front of our eyes! Both lights were flying exactly parallel with our vehicle, and appeared to be about the size and speed of a small jet or helicopter preparing to land. We quickly discounted this explanation because of the green color of both lights and the fact that they immediately disappeared in what looked like mid-air. After we had turned on to Hwy. 152, we looked back behind us to our left and could see no evidence of a conventional aircraft like possibly a low flying cropduster with lights having landed on the groun! d. We did not hear any sound during the sighting, either. I'm wondering if this could be another instance of the notoriously frequent Hwy. 5 UFO? Witnesses are both female and work in health care related occupations, one is a doctor and the other is an instrument technician.

Small agile triangular object with lights on the corners seen along I-5 south of Merced

I was driving north on I-5 in California (CA) and we were south of Merced. At around 12:30 on April 14, 2004 I noticed an odd pair of lights. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but my parents saw it too. I first noticed it when it appeared that the object was vertical with only 2 corners visible (imagine viewing a triangular block from the side).It appeared to be a very small triangular object with lights on the 3 corners.

The lights were round circular and cycled. To visualize one set of lights, imagine a cross section of a pipe with many lights making the circle. It was these lights that alternated kind of like christmas lights that look like the electricity is moving through them. For example, let's say each set of lights was only made of 3 lights. Light 1 is on, light 2 and 3 are off. Then L1 is off, L2 is on, L3 is off. Then L1 is off, L2 is off, L3 is on. Then L1 is on, L2 is off, L3 is off. I wish I could describe it better. Hopefully the text image below will come out correctly. You should see 3 O's portraying the 3 sets of circular light schemes with each O at a corner of an equilateral triangle.

O O O It hovered over the highway for maybe 30 seconds and quickly sped off to the right hand site shoulder behind the overpass. As I approached the overpass it came speeding back over the high way. It hovered very low. It actually passed right in front of my car twice and then hovered off to the left and shined a light (almost like a small white flashlight) right at me from the right hand side. This light came from one of the sides, not from one of the corners of the object. It followed me for a little bit and I was going just over 80mph. Then it crossed over the northbound side again and then went back to the right hand side where it vanished behind the overpass. I saw it for probably close to a minute or two total but it seems longer.

I believe the color was black but i couldn't quite see it because of the lights. I basically only saw the lights from it.

It may have been some one playing tricks on people because it was a very small object. Not exactly large enought to hold little green men. It probably close to 3 or 5 feet in length. It was definitely not wider than my Civic. However it had great agility and speed and it was silent.

I was definitely not the only person to see this. Aside from my parents in the same car, there were a bunch of trucks on the freeway at the time. I did a search on the internet at about 5:30 PM the same day to see if anyone had more info on this and I can't seem to find anything so I am entering in this info.

3 lights form perfect acute triangle for huge craft moving slowly overhead

We had just came home from a fourth of July party and decided to sit on the roof to get a look at anything else going off. I was glancing at the stars when I notice one of them began to move. At first I thought it was a satalite, so I motioned to my girlfriend to get her attention, then I look back up and two other lights of the same brightness (which was a little brighter than the surrounding stars) were behind the first star I saw in the shape on an acute triangle. Perfect in balance. The only lights on the craft were the three lights, one in the front with the two in the rear at each corner. If this was one solid craft, not three in a formation, it was huge. At least the size of a football field. The craft moved at a slow constant speed overhead us. The height seemed less than a normal commercial plane. There was no noise at all. The reason I think it was a solid craft is because how all three of the lights moved. All of them stayed at all times and equal distance apart from each other. The craft was in no hurry and I could see it for at least three minutes. The way it disappeared blew our minds. The craft moved across the sky to reach a point to where it simply disappear. When I say point in the sky, that is what I mean. I watch the lead light disappear at this point while the back two continued on the same path to this point and disappeared as well. There were no traces of the lights past that point and have not seen it since. I live on the outskirts of town. A simple description of what I saw is three lights in the sky in the shape of a perfect acute triangle, and because of the darkness I could see any detail between the lights, cruise slowly across the sky and go into some "wormhole" and disapper.

Saw two mutilated adult cattle disposed for pickup in little-travelled area

Driving to work 12:30 p.m. Feb. 16 saw two adult cattle and two calves disposed for pickup on the roadside near a dairy farm. The location was on Sunset Ave. between Howard and Weir roads about 300 yards west of Howard. I have two photos. The appearance was like the many mutilation photos I have seen. I commute 80 miles per day (rt) on rural road and see many dead animals. This is the real deal. The two adults both had circular cuts in the anal-genital areas. The udder are of one cow was removed. The stomach was visible and the viscera possibly was removed or consumed. Perhaps you can contact some interested in this who can contact the farmer or myself. Although I work as newspaper reporter, this is not the type of story I normally cover. I usually work with sources who are known to me and/or familiar with the publication, and I am not interested in investigating something like this myself, although I am very interested in these kind of subject. I will observe that one has followed the topic you deal with, it is transforming, and a little scary also, to see something known only through published or broadcast accounts firsthand.

One evening when I was returning from classes at the local college, I was driving west on M Street that at that time led back into town from where the college was located on the outskirts. Merced is located about six miles, I believe south, from Castle Air Force Base, which at that time was a SAC base.

It was very dark, as there were no street lights yet erected, and very little housing along the road.

As I approached town I looked to my right, and out in the field there appeared to be a cone of light shining down from somewhere high in the sky. My heart started pounding, so I pulled over to the side of the road, and rolled my window down to see if it was possibly a helicopter of some sort. The cone of light was devoid of light in its center, which is a little hard to explain just how it appeared to me. It was as if only the edges of the cone were lighted, and the interior was hollow.

It was static, never moved as far as I can remember, but every exact in its appearance. I sat and watched it for several minutes, never hearing any sound at all. I assumed any helicopter would have made a sound, but all was silence.

Merced at the time was a very small town, and there were no cars on the road, or foot traffic on the road that night.

I sat there entranced until all of a sudden the cone of light sucked up into itself ... just disappeared as if it had never happened. With my heart still pounding, and shaking like a leaf, I started the car, drove to my parnets house, and woke my dad up from a sound sleep.

I insisted he call the air base to see if they'd spotted anything unusual on their radar, or if they'd received any more reports of a strange sighting. I spoke with them myself then, and they assured me nothing unusual had been reported, or sighted ... I still, to this day, don't believe them, because I know what I saw, and didn't hear.

I can remember how eerily calm the night was, and how totally enchanting the sight was to see a hollow cone of light shining down from high in the sky onto nothing, only a few hundred feet from my car. As a photographer I'm usually very observant, critical, and attuned to trusting my eye. There was definetly something strange in the sky that night for me to remember it so vividly today.

Since ... I have seen an irregular triangle of lights hovering above the 405 freeway on the way back from Mexico, and a strange brilliant flash of green light that covered most of the sky, as far as the eye could see, in the area around the San Onofre nuclear plant, and another time coming over what is commonly know as "The Grapevine", a section of what is now Interstate Five between Los Angeles, and Bakersfield.

My daughter, and I both witness a bright red light bouncing all over the sky. On the other two occassions my daughters also witnessed the phenomenem

Shape: Sphere


Three luminescent chartreusse spheres moving "in trail" in a wide arc (34 mi) across the Valley sky.

At Merced Air Corps Field, a big bomber training base in 1946, I was awaiting points for separation.

O/A 4 PM, I left the barracks, started a shortcut across a field toward the main gate. By chance, I looked west (left) and far away (35 miles or so), a motion in the sky caught my eye. It was headed SE,and moving in an arc in my direction. It curved east and approached the base. The arc took it on a path toward me.

By now, I could see three spheres, luminescent chartreusse. They passed about 80 degrees westward over me, arced to the north and quickly disappeared.

I looked around for someone that I could say "What the hell was that?" but there was no other person within sight.

The thing that struck me was the absence of any sound. Also, it was still daylight.

Never heard of UFO or "flying saucer" until 18 months later. Then I wondered if that was similar to my sighting.

I haven't talked much about the experience, and you probably know why.
