I saw a fireball go across the night sky from east to west; very fast, no noise, no trail.

I saw an orange/red ball of fire go across the night sky from east to west directly over my house. It was much larger than any shooting star or meteor that I had ever seen. There was no tail and no noise whatsoever. It appeared to be somewhat low in the sky; the moon was out and visible, but it was cloudy and no stars could be seen. This object was far below the cloud cover. I half expected it to crash off to the west or hit the tree tops. I ran to follow it as it moved, but my view was obscured by trees, and I lost sight of it. There were no blinking lights and no real specific shape to it. Any suggestions?

Red orange orb flying straight acrooss the sky

I saw a red/orange light on the 4th in Wading River, NY. We saw two of them at differnet times. Then I went to my folks in Franklin Sq, NY (about 60 miles West) and they said they saw the same thing.

It was not fireworks, because it moved staight across the sky untli it faded away.

Not a UFO, but very strange...

At approximately 8 pm last night, while grilling on my back deck, I noticed four airplanes flying due north in a straight line, directly over my house, at an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 feet. These were large commercial jets, likely 737s or larger, and from my vantage point were separated by no more than one mile.

While we live smack-dab in the middle of a very busy air-traffic corridor, we never see commercial planes traveling this due-north trajectory (instead, most commercial jets pass over us at a lower altitude, heading west on final approach to MacArthur or Kennedy airports). And these planes were VERY close together -- as I said, no more than a mile between the first and fourth in the line, and probably less than that.

In fact, the third and fourth planes almost seemed to be jockeying for position, racing extremely close to each other before falling into line. Worthy of note: All four appeared to have their anti-collision lights on full and were very bright.

I suppose my eyes could have deceived me; this could have been a military formation heading north toward Connecticut, or perhaps the planes were not as close together as they appeared. But I've lived near major airports my entire life, and I believe I can identify commercial airliners; I also believe they were traveling at the same approximate altitude, and most certainly the same speed.

My 6-year-old son also witnessed the jet formation.

I noticed a triangular UFO was reported last month in Riverhead, which is our town here on Long Island (Wading River is our hamlet). I doubt that report was related to this event, and these planes did not appear otherworldly in any sense. But it was very, very strange to see commercial jets flying like this, and I thought it was worthy of mention.

Followed object in sky while driving, saw the colored lights as I got closer....

I left my house at 9:20 P.M. going from Middle Island to Wading River (NY). The towns are about a 10 minute drive apart. So I'm driving down route 25 at 9:20 P.M. and as soon as I got on the main road I noticed a big bright light in the sky. It stood out because it was a pitch black sky with no stars. So as I'm driving I kept my eye on it because it was unusual. It didn't move so I thought maybe it was a star. The closer I got to it I realized it wasn't a star because it had colored lights. But it wasn't a plane because it just hovered in the sky. I opened my car window and it was silent(not a helicopter)It didn't move at all, it was completely still. When I had a perfect view I pulled my car over to see it. Another car pulled over to(I don't know if they were looking at it also?) I realized a police car was on the side of the road too. The police drew my attention for a few seconds, I looked back up at the sky in all directions and it was gone. There is no way any plane could disapppear out of sight completely within a few seconds. The best way I could describe the object was a sphere shape, VERY bright and with blue and red lights on either side.
