bright light in the sky

I was out night fishing Friday night around 12:30am I seen what appeared to be a shooting star it was traveling southeast headed northwest what lead me to believe it was not a shooting star is when it got to my 10 o'clock position it abruptly stopped! It stayed motionless for about 20 seconds then it shot almost straight up.

Soon after I noticed a light which I didn’t really pay attention to because where I was fishing its across the Mississippi river and you can see the casinos across the river in the distance. The casinos usually are brightly lit and on occasions will have the big spotlights going back and forth in the sky. The light I seen I thought at the time was one of those lights from the casinos until the light came over the tree tops and slowly just faded away. Im not sure what I seen but I knew nobody would believe me.

3 red horizontal lights low and close in sky

44° 08' 02.27"N 74° 37' 47.13"W Google Earth On Monday, October 19th around 7 something pm looking East over Horseshoe Pond I saw 3 red, round horizontal lights in a straight line in the sky in the Adirondacks.

They stayed on for a few seconds then went off. A minute or so later (time is an estimate) I saw them again to the right of where they were before. A minutes after that I saw them to the left of where they had been originally. Then about 5 minutes later I saw them once more to the far right.

Each time they were lined up horizontally. They were pretty close to the ground. That's how they looked anyhow. It they weren't they would have had to be very, very big. Standing, my head was at about a 45 degree angle looking up at them.

I could feel the electrical current in my heart all night long. I had a really really bad nights sleep that night. Not afraid, but just somehow bad feeling. I didn't really attribute this to the lights at the time but it was so puzzling to me since the 3 nights before I had some of the most peaceful nights' sleep.

I asked everyone I could find the next day if they had seen or heard of such a thing before or had seen anything that night but no one was able to tell me anything.

I'm not sure anyone else was on the lake that night. I don't think that anyone was.

Report Updated October 2024:

1. I was camping on the edge of an uninhabited lake (Horseshoe Lake) in the Adirondacks, NY state facing East.I had a campfire going. I was cooking a can of baked beans on it (stirring them when it happened), so right over the fire.

2. There was no sound from the red, round horizontal lights.
They were large, and seemed very close to me.
They were completely silent.

Additional details:
It was fall and dark at 7pm–8pm when I saw the lights.
No other campers there but me.
Remember the electrical current feeling bad in my body. (Normally never feel this in my body)
Couldn't find anyone else the next morning camping anywhere on the lake.
