Orange/Redish orb/light high altitude moving East to West from lower NY fades to nothing after stopping in mid air

Walking dog at night with wife. Wife saw object in sky which was very high glowing from orange to redish, moving from east to west very slowly.

I thought it was a plane at first, then when we stopped walking to see if it was moving it was slowing down and came to a complete stop in the north western section of the sky.

The size of it was like a typical star but slightly brighter than a planet and in a orange redish color then suddenly it had a slight burst of red and slowly started to fade. I have seen small aircraft and even high altitude planes that could fool someone for a min as a UFO but this WAS NOT a plane. I have never witness this before. It was definitive strange.

I rushed to my computer which was only like 3 mins away to see where the International space station was and it was well past NY and in the lower Pacific Ocean region even though it did have a flight path in the area. Something was trailing it or something else is going on.

Was sitting on my roof with my wife enjoying the night viewing the stars, when suddenly, looking towards the east, we saw what looked like 3 very bright red lights in a angled formation. It was difficult to determine if it was very large object with 3 red lights on it or if it was 3 separate objects.

There was no sound at all. We have never seen anything like it. There was nothing we could observe that would indicate it was a aircraft. No blinking lights. If I were to guess on the speed, it/they were moving I would probably say 40mph.

2 solid boomerang-solid shapes in formation cross sky from horizon-overhead-behind bldg; 1.5 seconds; silent; color of cool fl. bulb

It could have been 1968 but was probably '69 or '70. FIrst night of Perseid meteor shower that year. I was on terrace of 6th floor apartment in Port Chester, NY with open view from east to west facing south. Was outside to see if there were any early meteors, facing the direction from which they were supposed to arise. It was only about 12:30 a.m., too early to expect to see anything much.

Then low, just on the horizon, I saw a bright light. I remember thinking, "wow, this is going to be a heck of a meteor shower," when two boomerang-shaped things - one slightly "ahead" of the other but in tight formation, flew over.

The 2 objects crossed the entire sky, from the horizon to a point directly overhead and then over my building (disappearing from my view) in about 1.5 seconds... maybe it was 1 second... maybe 2.

They were a luminous silvery greenish blue color... sort of the color of a cool fluorescent light bulb when it's on, but not as bright.

There were no details, no flashing lights, no windows, and no sound... totally silent.
