Star-like object stayed still for 5 minutes then desended and ascended up and down a few times before disappearing.

My brother and I were standing outside on our balcony. I am a 19 year old female home for summer break while my brother is 24. We have witnessed strange sighting of objects in the sky before especially over the last few weeks but have no decided to submit a report until now. We witnessed an object which at first appeared to be a star very low in the sky, just above the treetops in the distance. We watched the light/object for around 5 minutes. The object appeared to be flickering and flashing slightly. We first noticed the object because we thought it was unusual to see a star that low in the sky and have had previous experiences seeing strange objects in the sky line while out on our balcony. After watching the object for a few minutes, we felt a little uneasy and decided to go back inside. I suggested to my brother that we use our telescope to look at the object with a better view. My brother got the telescope and went back onto the balcony. When he got back to the balcony, which was probably around 3 minutes later, the object was noticeably lower in the sky, closer to the treeline than it had been before. He set up the telescope and tried to focus on the star-like object. He got a decent unfocused glimpse of the object for around 10 seconds and noticed flashing lights and changing colors within the object. He stated that the object almost seemed organic. He watched the object slowly descend and straddle the treeline for a few seconds. It then dipped below the treeline and stayed there for a few seconds, before popping back up for another few seconds. It then slowly descended beneath the treeline and did not come back up.

Orange Fireball spotted over East Moriches, NY

One fireball object flying in irregular pattern observed at 22:30. Object appeared to hover and intermittently disappeared behind cloud coverage. No sounds were emitted. Was a bright orange color and impossible to tell the altitude or size. Was seen in rural/suburban area over a backyard. Was not moving quickly nor did it change trajectories. Sped up and slowed down.

Two huge red spheres over Moriches Long Island witnessed by officer

I was working the 4x12 shift as a security officer and the weather was clear at that time. As I was writing two small red lights caught my eye not because there's always air traffic from local airports but they started with a small but bright flash from 1-2 miles away. Heading straight for me, they made a smooth turn in the flight path towards the airport. Meanwhile there was a small plane close ahead but a little lower so I used that as a measure for the spheres when they were closest to me. They were big, at least 3or4 small planes in height stacked up. The second one was identical,seemed independent and followed close behind the first. They maintained the same speed as the plane ahead,and made no sound. As the plane went to land, they kept going making a turn. At that point I was hoping to see there opposite sides but they started to shrink in size and went out like a old tv set would shut off when the picture turns into a line, then a dot, then disappears but very slow. They had beautiful red coloring to them but a different red than I have seen.

only witness to egypt Air flight 990's plummet and subsequent crash onto Nantucket Shoals, October 31/Nov 1 1999. Highliner Lobsterman, member of the 2 million trap club. Born ((date and place deleted))
On September ninth at approx. 19:10 hours EDST, while hauling gear on the continental shelf 125KM East, Southeast of Nantucket Mass. I overheard a radio
transmission originating from the vessel "Flight", made to the U.S. Coast Guard group Moriches, Long Island, New York. The master of the sailing vessel "Flight", attracted my ears to pay attention; by hailing the universal distress code "Mayday". I immediately followed the channel shift to Channel 22 alpha, which is a standard Coast Guard working frequency. The master of the sailing vessel "Flight", initially established his line of work, and also the fact that he was in the company of a veteran pilot with thirty years experience. To the best of my recollection, he reported seeing a silver cigar shaped instrument, fly in from the North, heading South, at approximately an altitude of two to three thousand feet, stop, and turn
due east, and propel itself out of visual range at an astonishing speed. I was listening
intently to this conversation as I often due to interesting FM radio conversations. The one thing that struck me, is that, being the sensitive individual that I am, and having monitored countless thousands if not hundred of thousands of Radio conversations over the years, I could not help but sense the fear in his voice. This certainly did startle me. I have a wordly mind, but had never actually heard anything quite so peciuliar. Telephoned report to NUFORC:

The U. S. Coast Guard, Boston, MA, forwards information submitted to their station via radio-telephone by two men sailing south of Long Island. Please see report from two witnesses for this date.

The two witnesses reported witnessing a disc-shaped object with appendages, descend out of the evening sky to the northeast of the witnesses' sailboat, suddenly level out, move rapidly to the south, and then appear to move rapidly away from the boat to the east.

The witnesses reported to the USCG that they estimated that the object had been less than 5 miles from their location when they first observed it.

Their position at the time of the sighting, was the following: 40.31 degrees north, 072.33 degrees west.

Two ment were sailing on a 49-foot sailboat, and were located at 40.31 N/072.33 W, approximately 20 miles south of Long Island. One of the two men aboard witnessed an object in the northeast sky descend almost vertically down, level out above the water, and proceed to the south (left to right) for a few seconds. Suddenly, the object appeared to turn away from the observers, and moved very quickly out of their sight, heading to the east.

Both witnesses described the unidentified object as being more or less circular in shape, with peculiar appendages extending off of it. It was metalic in appearance, and its surface looked almost shiny.

Both witnesses are adult males, and both highly educated professionals. One of the two witnesses has been a commercial pilot for several decades.

The two witnesses contacted the U. S. Coast Guard, which in turn forwarded the report to NUFORC.

NY Radar Air Traffic Controllers see UFO over Long Island.

I witnessed a missle-shaped object without any wings, tailfins or any other external control surfaces flying at a slow speed in straight and level flight eastbound over Long Island at approx 2000 ft. We were driving westbound to exit the beach after fishing that night.

My companion yelled for me to stop and pointed out the object. The exhaust was 3 colors. red, then surrounded by blue, surrounded by white. Appeared to be jet-propulsion. This made the slow speed impossible.no faster than 80-90 knots.(est)

After about one min. the object turned and accelerated until it dissappeared. No bank angle or rate of turn was apparent.Just an instant directional change. The angle of turn appeared about 140 degress. since the object was headed due east over long island, the approx angle of travel and turn was discernable by well known landmarks.

My companion and myself were at that time, radar air traffic controllers at the NY approach control (15 years)in westbury, NY, and both with former US Navy ATC experiance(4 years). Speed and altitude judgements and relative velocity and turn angles at night were and are part of our daily work in ATC both in Tower and Radar work.

Since the Lufthansa405 departure from JFK would reach the spot they reported the sighting in roughly 15-18 mins,(east of HTO VOR)assuming an ontime departure, which would be common on a typical sat night in NY (low traffic volume) and Lufthansa 405 is a Merit or WAVY departure (SID out of NY to Europe) the timeline makes perfect sense.

I report this now after all these years because I only recently stumble upon the LH405 PIREP (pilot report) and wanted to confirm his sighting and the BAW266 report.
