6 traveling campfires going NW to NE the night of the Full Moon 8/21

I was letting my dogs out before bedtime when I noticed something bright in the NW sky.

I put my dogs in and grabbed the binoculars. When I went back outside there were 2 bright orange and yellow objects that looked like flying campfires about 30 degrees above the horizon. They were flying at the same rate of speed as they stayed the same distance apart. They left my sight in the NE sky. Then I looked to the NW and saw 2 more exactly the same coming across the sky. One was a little higher than the other, but again kept the same speed and stayed equidistant apart. Now I was debating whether to run in the house and get my camera with the telephoto lens, but was worried I'd miss something. Sure enough 1 more appears in the NW sky and heads NE. It looked exactly the same. The top changed shape like a campfire would but it was basically a triangular fire with a flat bottom. This left my sight & 1 last one traveled through.

I called Vassar College Observatory but no one saw it.

Thin black cigar descending below treeline

I was eastbound about 2/3 over the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge. I saw to the ESE a black thin cigar (or disc on edge) descending at an angle then stopping for a second then going straight down below the treeline about two miles away.

I went to where I thought it went down and drove around asking everyone I saw if they had seen anything. No one had.

I went home and called the local State Police barracks on Rte. 9 south of Rhinebeck to report it. They were amused and said they hadn't had any other reports.

A dark cigar or disc descending, stopping and then going straight down.

I was 2/3 over the Kingston Rhinecliff bridge into Dutchess County. As I scanned the horizon I saw to the ESE a craft descending at a shallow angle towards the WSW. It Stopped for a split second and then went straight down behind the treeline of a hill 2 or so miles distant. It appeared to be black or very dark gray and approx 50 or 60 feet in length or diameter(it could have been a disc rather than a cigar shape.

There is very little traffic in that direction at that time of the morning and I doubt anyone else had seen it from the bridge. I'm giving an educated guess that it went down about a mile due East of Rhinebeck, NY.

I drove around for a while looking for it or anyone that may have seen it but no luck.

2 sightings of apparently the same triangular object, moving above tree level at a very slow rate of speed with only a dull hum

My boss and I were working late painting the interior of a house. I stepped outside for a cigarette and heard a strange dull humming. For a second I thought it might have been the sub pump in the basement kicking on, but then I realized the sound was coming from above the trees. I looked up and thought I saw a large commercial aircraft (at least the size of a 737) in trouble (because it was so low). Then I realized I should have heard much more noise than I did, and that it seemed to be moving below "stall speed" for a craft this size. It looked like a equilateral triangle with three white lights at each acute angle. I watched it glide overhead and leave. About an hour and a half later, when my boss and I went to get in his car and leave, I heard the noise again. He asked me, "what the hell is that" and just like in a bad alien flick I said, "they're back!" Whoever "they" were, I don't know. But the object passed right over our heads, which I guessed was only 120 ft. in the air. It looked like a solid black or dark triangle. Another unsubstantiated sighting (or a folie a deux) to some, a mind-bender for me and my boss.

sighting in Rhinebeck, NY 1989 Rt. 9 - Taconic State Parkway

Late one afternoon of 1989 I was on my way home from work. I had an approximately 45 minute ride which took me through the town of Rhinebeck, NY. Lots of traffic, as it was rush hour & many people were on there way home.

Traffic started to slow & it became dark, as I looked out my window I realized that the sky had gotten very dark very fast, and people were stopping their cars, pulling off to the side of the road. I looked up and was surprised at the sight I saw. Hovering above us was a huge, very dark almost black, object,chevron shaped, very large and covering not only the road but buildings on both sides of the road. The sky was completely blocked out it was that large an object and although I am not sure exactly how high up it was, nothing could be seen around it. Dark gray/black underneath...silent, not a sound did I hear from it and moving extremely slowly. There were some lights underneath, but I did not count them or take note of any color. To me they were just bright, but small lights.

People were pointing up, and some were out of their cars or nearly stopped in the roadway. This object continued moving forward slowly along Route 9 East, heading towards the Route 9G intersection, East. It sped up a bit, but never any sound could be heard and it disappeared heading towards the town of Red Hook. I later heard reports of it being sighted on the Taconic State Parkway heading South.

KITE SHAPED OBJECT CHANGED 3 COLORS AND JIGGED UP AND DOWN WHILE FLASHING, VERY, VERY BRIGHT.

The object was shaped like a kite and was a very bright yellow at first. It was jumping up and down 3 or 4 times a second and flashing at the same rate. It was moving very slowly SW over the swamp towards the edge of Round lake. Very suddenly it jumped up 6 or 8 feet and turned a bright orange still jumping and flashing as before. At this time I grabbed my sister and told her to look at this, ((name deleted)), it just changed colors, what is it. She said it was a kite and I said no it's in the swamp. Who is going to fly a kite in the swamp! Just then it jumped up another 6 or 8 feet and changed to a hot rose pink color still jumping and flashing and still moving slowly SW, now over land and into the large trees that lined the lake. It went in between trees but kept it's SW direction untill it was lost from sight into the heavy forest. I would estimate the size of the object as 5 feet high and perhaps 3 feet wide. It was a clear bright day with a light easterly breeze.

Date is approximate. Also, Rhinebeck, NY, I believe, is the site of an airport, where numerous antique aircraft are based. However, the description the witness provides does not seem compatible with the sighting of any type of conventional aircraft, and in 1957, aircraft could not change their color. PD

It was October of 1955 or 56.

I was stargazing on a chase lounge in our yard as I did so many nights as a boy.

This very distant star-like point of light came very slowly up over the treeline from the Southwest. When it got to about 70 degrees overhead, it just stopped dead.

I watched it for quite a while and noticed that it was in rotational lock with the Earth as stars were moving normally behind it. I couldn't get anyone to come out and look as they were all watching our first TV.

After about 30 minutes it began to move back the way it had come at the same rate of speed and disappeared below the treeline.

We did not make this thing. Sputnik-1 was a year or two away (Oct.4, 1957) from being launched.
