Two lights, moving as one in echelon, starting north at 9 o’clock horizon to straight overhead and stopping, no noise, faded into dark

I was a guard at a US DOE facility. This is a very secluded island, on Vermillion Bay, near the Gulf Of Mexico. I was working night shift, on vehicular patrol alone in my vehicle. While talking to a fellow guard from vehicle to vehicle, I first observed two slowly moving lights just over the roof of his vehicle. I asked him to dismount his vehicle as I was doing. We stood and watched these lights move, in an echelon formation as though they were one craft, toward the south. The object did not make any sound, and due to the site location and seclusion, there were no ambient sounds either. It was very hard to estimate how far this object was, 1000ft, 10,000ft, in orbit, not sure. It was also hard to determine if it masked any stars to maybe give its shape as it moved. When the object reached straight overhead, 12 o’clock, it stopped, right over my colleague and I. It was as though it had stopped over us because it wanted us to know it knew we were there. It was definitely controlled and it was not a helicopter. After a brief time just hovering motionless over our heads, the two lights began to dim, slowly and slowly they dimmed together until they faded into the cloudless night sky, being indistinguishable from any other dimmer star. We decided not to report this. There was, to my reckoning, no missing time, nor any other phenomena that night. However, within a week or so, I was working evening shift, I spotted a bluish, orange fireball flying low and fast just above the tree line from my patrol vehicle, to my right, (west), moving north to south. It vanished into the trees. The observation was brief. I do believe the two events were connected due to the timetable of the sitings.
