Observed iridescent light blue cigar shaped object slowly traveling from my right to left while in basic training at 5:30 AM.

On or about November 10, 1966 I was in my second week of basic training at Fort Polk Louisiana. Our company, (B Company), of about 120 men had fallen out for our morning formation at approximately 5:30 AM. The soldiers faced our sergeants and officers with our backs to our barracks. An iridescent light blue cigar shaped object came into our view silently and slowly traveling horizontally from our right to our left. I would estimate the size to be 50’ long x 10’ high, the ends were elliptical in shape, I would also estimate the object was 1000 ft away at an elevation of 300 ft. The object made no sound. After traveling from our left to our right its left end began to slowly “bend” at a 90 deg angle and it appeared to “flow” into a vertical attitude, after it achieved a vertical attitude the top end appeared to “bend” to the left and it “flowed” back to a horizontal attitude. It then silently accelerated so fast that it was out of view within a few seconds. By this time the sergeants and officers had turned around to see what the soldiers were watching. After the object disappeared we were called to attention, the officers and sergeants then continued our morning formation. I would estimate the object was visible for 3 to 4 minutes. No explanation was ever offered for what we had seen.

I do not know what direction our formation was facing but if someone has a map of Fort Polk in 1966 I would be able to orient our formation. Fort Polk occupies an area of 192,000 acres.
