Large white orb flew past car at ground level.

My best friend was living in Mildura at the time and wanted me to visit, he offered to drive down to Melbourne and pick me up. He was 35 at the time and had recently finished his degree in Audiology and had to work rurally. I was 30 at the time and living in Melbourne, working and studying. I'm female so I don't like driving from Melbourne to Mildura at the best of times and happily accepted.

Most of the trip went fine until we reached a really empty area on the calder highway, about halfway between Hattah and Red Cliffs. This area has flat farmland as far as the eye can see, all the way to the horizon and it's a single lane highway. As we had reached this section I was talking to my best friend and facing him, and suddenly a large minibus sized ball of light shot past the car (to my east) at the most unbelievable speed. The ball of light was so bright it was what I could only describe as the hottest white light I've ever witnessed but it illuminated nothing around it. It made no sound. It had no force upon the car despite being so very close, only several meters away.

As it shot past the car it didn't change direction and went in a straight line, towards the horizon and then it was gone. I paused for several seconds, unsure of what I had just seen, and asked my friend.. "did you see that"? He said "yeah I did, I didn't get to see it as well as you did because I'm driving but what was that".

We immediately felt a sense of fear and were very thankful to find another car further along the highway to stay with the rest of the way to Mildura. Ever since that night I have refused to drive anywhere near that area at night. We still talk about it to this day and my friend has since seen other things he cannot explain from Bendigo to Mildura.
