I was sitting in seat 47K (a window seat on the right side of the jet airliner) of Japan Airlines flight JL 060 on Feb 16, 2006, on my return trip from the Osaka/Kansai airport to Los Angeles. We were well into the flight (2-4 hours) when I happened to look out of my window, even though I knew there was nothing to look at except clouds and the ocean. It was broad daylight and we were flying above the clouds. The jet I was on also had a large video display which showed our location on a map, and it showed nothing but water all around us (no land appearing on the display).

But what I saw when I looked out of the window took me by surprise. There was something hovering at a medium distance away (not far, but near enough to get a decent look at), and at just a slightly lower altitude than the plane I was sitting on. I could see it when I looked straight out of my window and down slightly.

What I saw looked like jet-black smoke, except that the smoke was in the shape of a "V" with curved sides and a rounded point... like a 2-D parabolic curve. And the orientation of it was that the vertex of the parabola was pointing in the same direction as my jet was travelling (parallel with the jet), but it was also pointing slightly towards the jet. Also, the dimensional plane containing this 2-D parabolic curve of smoke was parallel with the surface of the earth.

I am not sure how large the object actually was, but I can say from my reference point that it was roughly 2 inches long at arm's length.

The oddest thing about what I saw was that the black smoke looked to be flowing within this parabolic curve shape, but the smoke never left this shape! And the motion of the hovering was the same approximate motion and speed of the wobble of a toy top when it just starts losing stabilty (as it slows down), except that the wobble motion and speed of what I was looking at stayed constant. The parabolic curve shape itself wasn't spinning (it kept pointing in the same direction as described above), it just had a slow and steady wobbling motion to it.

I stared at it as long as I could, trying to figure out what it was. How could smoke hold a constant shape and wobble like it was a solid object??? I did look around briefly to see if any other passengers near me were also looking at it, but I only saw people reading, watching TV on the small displays on the backs of the seats in front of them, or sleeping. I was travelling alone and didn't know anybody to talk to about it anyways. I also wanted to get up to access my stowed bag where I had a disposable camera, but I knew that by the time I got the camera and returned to my seat that the object would be either out of view or too small to take a good picture. So I quickly looked back out the window to watch it and study it as much as I could. As we travelled, it slowly drifted towards the rear of my jet and became smaller as we moved away from it, until I couldn't see it anymore from my window.

Looking back at this experience, it was most unfortunate that I didn't think to take note of our position -- the jet airliner also showed (along with the map) the latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, etc. of where we currently were.

Is there a way to find out who the pilots of this flight were, and contact them to ask them if they also saw it? And can the same be done with the passengers of this flight??? I am 35 years old and I have a 4 year Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. But I can't think of anything that I know of which could describe what I saw. All that I know for sure is that I saw a black, smokey, parabola shape wobbling as a solid object, but I couldn't see anything else -- no vehicle! Yet I was near enough to see the flowingness of the smoke. And even though I was looking at it mostly from the side and slightly from above, watching it wobble gave me a good feel of its overall shape.

The only explanation that seems to make sense about what I saw is to imagine some kind of invisible triangular craft hovering there, with the black smoke eminating from the outer edge of the bottom of the craft as a result of its hovering mechanism. Also, maybe the black smoke completely dissipates shortly after being produced. This could explain why the smoke seemed to conform to a certain shape -- the shape of the craft producing it -- and why the entire parabola of smoke looked to move together as a single entity while the craft was wobbling...

Black circular craft seen on NASA live streaming broadcast

I was watching the launch on NASA streaming video today located at http://www.nasa.gov/55644main_NASATV_Windows.asx when I noticed something strange in the video. Right after the launch the camera went back to the B52 for about 3-4 minutes. During this time there was a black circle hovering in and out of the frame right next to the plane. It would come in from the right of the screen and hover near the front of the plane and next to/ under the wing. Then after a few seconds would go off screen, then return again. This lasted about 3-4 minutes. The commentators said nothing about it, they must have seen it. Maybe it's nothing, but it's worth looking in to.

NUFORC Note:

We looked at the video, and the object appeared to us to perhaps be a fly, walking on the inside of the cockpit of the chase/photography aircraft that photographed the launch of the X-43a. PD

Three luminous spheres followed the 747 on the port side as the aircraft headed toward Tokyo. Notified flight attendant. Objects flew close together and below our altitude of approx. 35,000 ft.

The event took place either over the Pacific or Alaska while enroute to Tokyo from Seattle via Northwest Airlines flt. 007. The luminous spheres were so bright that it wasn't possible to determine shape. The three objects were a bright silvery color and followed the aircraft below our altitude in a loose formation. There was no wild manuevering but the objects did ascend and descend slightly. The distance from the aircraft could have been a mile behind us and perhaps 1000 ft below our altitude. I notified the flight attendant and she said she would notify the crew--possibly the crew made visual contact also. Most of the passengers were asleep at the time. Do not know if NWA flight crew notified air control. I was formerly with North American Aviation/Space Division assigned to a photographic unit documenting the command module tests during the Apollo program.

what are those two 5-6 ft spheres floating on the water ?

I had retired from marine construction in the US and on my way to circumnavigate the world in my 34 ft sailboat. I had one 24 yr old female crew person who also acted as cook.

About dusk we observed 2 spheres about 5-6 ft in diameter floating on the water at approx. 75 yards from us. They seemed to be tethered together and appeared to be metal. I am now 74 years old and am very interested in UFOs and ancient aliens. I wish I had stopped and checked them out but it was getting dark and to tell the truth I was a little leery---sorry----I certainly regret it now---

September 1985. I was working on a fishing boat, heading from San Diego, CA, to Hawaii. We had dropped down to the “Great Circle” to get the trade winds. Along with my boat was another in our code group, the other boats were coming from Northern CA, OR, WA, to meet us in Honolulu.

Slow traveling as during the day we had our lines out. About the 18 days. About the 13th day, I was on watch, and ((woman's name deleted)), on the other boat was also. This was about 0300 hours. We were about 2 miles apart. I had my radar set to 30 miles, as did she.

As I glanced at the radar, I saw a big blip at the 30 mile line. Watched it for a minute, but it was moving so fast, turned to 15 miles, saw the tail end, radioed ((woman's name deleted)), she said, “What the hell is that?”

Went to five miles, then 2 miles, then all of a sudden, the night lit up, a kind of teal blue, very bright, so bright I had to turn my head, then right in front of me, about a mile or so this huge thing was so bright blue and crashed into the ocean. I saw the huge splash, as did ((woman's name deleted)).

The bright blue light slowly disappeared into the ocean about a half mile in area.

I often wondered why we were the only two that saw the UFO on such a large ship.

I have been reluctant to tell this story over the years due to disbelief to the listeners. This happened at around 23:00-23:30 on the flight deck in 1996 when I was stationed aboard the USS Coral Sea CV-43, an American aircraft carrier. The first aircraft to leave the ship before a launch is the rescue helicopter and is the last to land. I worked as an aircraft refueler (purple shirt) and was in charge of quanity and quality control of aviation fuel operations. After rescue helicopter landed,I was doing "mop up operations" (Making sure that all fod materail (trash and equipment) was removed so that we could get ready for the morning launch. I was walking aft of the ship alongside a shipmate (Aviation Ordnance, red shirt)when I saw an assortment of blinking lights directly behind the ship. I walked cautiously to investigate and was simply amazed at what I saw.

The UFO was round and circular in shape and about 20-30 was just hovering (or floating) behind the ship with the blinking lights. In about 2-3 minutes, it simply disappeared as if it sank in the deep waters behind the ship. I realized that my shipmate had a grip on my arm with his mouth wide open and states, "Wow, did you see that!" I said , "Yes, did you see it?" I left the scene, and my ship mate still standing there in disbelief.

I told a couple of fellows about it and they simply state, "Why don't you give me some of what you been smoking" and they simply laugh it off. I rarely tell anyone of the incident unless they initiate reports seeing UFO's. I have never seen anything since that incident, but I often watch the skies. This incident has not shaken my faith, I still believe in God and I am a Christian, I just know that we are not alone in this vast universe.

I alway like going on the flight deck at night to look at the stars.

After the recovery was done I did so thats when I saw a shooting star accept shooting dont stop hover over the ship and change direction.

Years later the astronauts admitted a ufo followed them from the moon for me it proved I was not see thing. But I never reported to the officers on board and never talk about but wanted to. The commander aboard apollo 14 was Edgar Mitchell check it out.

A white circle appeared off starboard bow, resembling a ship's running light. Distance at sea from a sailboat at night is imperceptible,so fearing collision with a larger ship, I "came off the wind" to slow speed. The orb,not as large as the moon would appear, shot dead across the dimly lit horizon, toward the starboard-quarter in a split second. There was no trajectory nor trail of flames like a rocket. It simply passed at an incredible speed. No one to whom I've spoken had any explanation for this observation.

At the time, my family, two crew members & I were enroute to Hawaii from Newport Beach, CA. It was my shift at the helm, so I was the only person top-side. Would really like to know what Type of sighting I witnessed.

No sound was emitted from the bright, white object.

Circular Green light rose vertically from ocean to 30-40K ft, then accelerated out of sight horiztonally

I sighted an Unidentified Flying Object in the summer (Aug/Sep) of 1968 in the Pacific Ocean.

At the time, I was a Captain and a highly qualified Navigator (5,000+ hours flying time) with the US Air Force, and was flying a C-124 Globemaster aircraft from Bucholz Army Airfield located on Kwajalein Island, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands to Hickam Air Force Base at Honolulu, Hawaii. I flew the route periodically and had never encountered any other aircraft traffic on that route. As far as I knew, only the Military Airlift Command wing at Hickam Wing and their C-124s were the only aircraft the ever flew in this part of the world – and the purpose of our missions was to ferry supplies and a few passengers between Hawaii, Johnston Island, Kwajalein, & Eniwetok.

Circumstances at time of sighting: Location: 16N – 176W (approximate) Date: August 16, 1968 (approximate) Time: Approx. 0800 GMT (Local time – 2100) Altitude: 9,000 feet Airspeed: 200 Knots Heading: Approx. 060 degrees, true Weather: Clear – Unlimited visibility – Dark – Moon: Waxing Gibbous – overhead, slightly behind aircraft Lights: None on Ocean Surface – only nav lights on aircraft – using red light in cockpit I was between required fixes, and was sitting in the co-pilot seat in the cockpit (co-pilot was in the bunk). Cockpit instrument lights were configured red for night flying.

I spotted a light green glow on the ocean in front of us (relative heading 30 degrees). Due to lack of fixed objects outside the aircraft, would estimate the spot was 3-4 miles in front of us. I pointed the object out to the Aircraft Commander (Maj. Hal Walthal) and between us we speculated what it might be. It looked like the glow was under the ocean surface and appeared several 100 feet in diameter, although there was no way to know for sure, as there were no outside references and we were at 9,000 feet.

We speculated we might be looking at “maybe” a missile equipped submarine with a door open and that was what was emitting the light. We talked about the French testing nuclear weapons in French Polynesia, but knew that was about 5,000 miles south of us. We recheck NOTAMs and there was nothing mentioned there.

As we came closer (perhaps the spot was 1 mile away at our 2:30 position, the light began rising vertically. We picked up nothing on our weather radar (APS-42), and the green light continued to rise vertically - perhaps at 10,000 ft/min rate of climb until it was “far” above us (perhaps 30,000-40,000 feet) at which time the object literally performed an immediate, sharp. 90-degree turn to seeming level flight and headed in an Easterly direction. It was still glowing green and its lateral acceleration was unbelievable – perhaps 1,000’s of miles an hour, and almost immediately disappeared into the distance. We knew the laws of physics would not permit any known vehicle to physically turn 90-degrees like that, nor accelerate to that speed that quickly.

As the UFO disappeared to the East, we discussed whether it might be a threat to the United States, even though the US coast was 3,000-4,000 miles away. We pulled our instructions for filing a CIRVIS (Communications Instructions for Reporting Vital Intelligence Sightings) report, but as we composed the report, we speculated that whatever the UFO was, if its intent was to do damage to the US, it would likely be there and carry out its intended damage long before anyone received our report. By now, we had the whole crew involved discussing our sighting. Several of us “knew of” people who had formally reported UFOs in the past, and knew they had spent years answering bizarre questions and being hounded by “investigators”. We speculated that formally reporting our sighting might wind up being a career-impacting event, and most of us were career-minded people.

So … we ultimately chose not to file the CIRVIS report and let the event “slide by”. For the next several hours we tuned our HF radios to stations where we thought we might hear news if something or someone attacked the US. It was a great personal relief that nothing “weird” happened or was sighted in the US. Some of us mentioned the event to our friends over the years, but to my knowledge, no one ever filed an official report.

Five UFOs sighted by a U.S. Navy destroyer in 1966 execute a 90 degree turn and speed off at what was considered light speed.

In mid January (15-20,)*, 1966, while enroute to Guam aboard the U.S.S. Wedderburn (DD-684), I was the Quartermaster of the Watch (QMOW)(Asst. Navigator) on the midwatch (0000-0400) Midnight to 4AM. I was using my 7 X 50 binoculars scanning the clear sky and enjoying the “dome effect.” We were on Independent Steaming heading for Guam as part of our WestPac assignment. I initially sighted a formation of five white lights in a vee formation at 90 degrees overhead. Our course was approximately 250 degrees. The formation was very high at satellite level approximately. I “chewed out” the lookouts above me for not reporting them. I contacted CIC (combat-information center) to see what they had on radar. These objects were moving slowly heading in the same direction towards Guam so I assumed maybe it was flight of aircraft. I immediately logged in the sighting in the ship’s log, standard procedure. At this point CIC contacted Guam Air force base to see what aircraft they had coming in, standard Navy procedure. By now, one to three minutes had passed both Officer of the Deck (OOD) and the Junior OOD were observing the objects along with the Boatswain’s Mate of the watch (BMOW) and the two lookouts. Guam radioed back that they had no aircraft returning and to check with Tachikawa Air Force base in Japan to see what they had in the area. They in turn suggested we contact British radar in Hong Kong to see who might be in the area. All the responses were negative, at least five minutes had passed. (We were in a flurry of activity). As we observed this formation it suddenly conducted a 90 degree turn, without hesitation and literally “took off’ they disappeared in a blur! I was calling out, “Dead reckoning” to establish where they might have gone. We all lowered our binoculars slowly and looked at each other. I asked the OOD, who at that time was the Operations Officer and a very serious individual, “What was that speed Sir, Mach 25, 30, light speed?” My next question was how was I to log that in officially? He looked at us and stated: “Gentlemen, I believe we would call those UFOs” then he looked at me “Quartermaster log it as we saw it.” So in the ship’s log, I stated that the five objects in a vee formation executed a 90 degree turn without hesitation heading South at an extremely high speed, Mach speed unknown. Witnesses consisted of the two officers, two lookouts the BMOW, the messenger of the watch, our sound-phone man and myself.

I stated “satellite level” due to the fact we were aware of the “Echo” satellite at that time and we knew where and when it would be over us. We often used it as ruse while training officers in using a sextant, claiming it was an “important fast moving star” vital to our position. Satellites never change course. That ship’s log disappeared. I know this because I was in charge of storing logs that were filled and I wanted to keep that particular page for myself as evidence. So when I went to the storage area on the ship to retrieve the log it was gone, someone had “removed” it.

high speed ufo spotted and tracked on U.S. Navy radar

In about June of 1965, while in the US Navy, aboard a destroyer in the Western Pacific, we observed a UFO on radar at about midnight one night. We first picked up the object on our long-range air search radar at about 300 miles.

It flew "down" our radar beam (descended towards our ship), overflew us and then exited on a reverse profile, disappearing at about 300 miles again. This happened in an extremely short period of time.

In the ensuing 40 years, I've forgotten the particulars, but I do remember that we calculated the craft's speed in excess of 50,000 mph. This was not a so-called "ghost" image, or a radar signal bouncing off the moon.

We were a seasoned crew of trained radar experts. We knew what we were seeing and tracking.

Occurred: 1962-12-05 00:00 Local
Reported: 2007-08-23 00:00 Pacific
Duration:

Location: Pacific Ocean (in flight), , Pacific Ocean

Shape:

The second sighting I would like to mention was related by my flight examiner navigator, then a Captain, later a Major, named Jordan W. Grant. We called him "Pappy Grant" and he was probably in his forties at the time.

On December 5, 1962, I was given a line check from Pappy, again to Rhein Main.

During our two-day crew rest in Germany, we had several meals together and at one of them, Pappy related the following story.

It was during a mission in over the Pacific and Pappy was navigating. It was daylight and Pappy had the LORAN set on as well as the radar (which was always on when it was working correctly). Suddenly the display on the LORAN scope and the display on the radar scope shrunk, leaving only a dot in the middle of each scope. The compasses began to gyrate wildly.

Pappy stuck his head into the cockpit and found the pilots gibbering incoherently and looking fearfully back as best they could from their side windows. Pappy asked what had happened. Finally, they calmed down enough to tell him. One told him that a flaming red ball had just nearly hit them head-on and that he was afraid that it might return. The second said the same thing but claimed that there were four balls instead of just one. The ball or balls had been at the same altitude as the airplane and flying straight and level.

Eventually, the radar, the LORAN set, and the compasses returned to normal.

Chances are Pappy is no longer alive. He had a master's degree in marine biology and worked on his own blueberry farm with his wife between missions. He would eat two large steaks whenever he could and enjoyed good food perhaps more than he should have. If you have any suggestions on how to find either John or Pappy, please let me know. A search on line might help. Pappy was more than just a flight examiner with a higher rank than most of us. He was a valuable friend to us all.
