Based on my military log book, the incident I describe happen in mid-December 1997. I was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time, working as a radar operator on P-3 Orion aircraft. My unit was deployed Mediterranean, operating from the naval air base in Sigonella, Italy. Late one night, my crew took off on a tactical mission around midnight, heading east over the Mediterranean Sea. Since it was a late departure and we had about 2 or 3 hours before arriving at our tactical area in the Eastern Med, most of the crew used the opportunity to catch a few hours of sleep. Except of course, the cockpit crew and myself, as I nodded on and off while manning at the radar station.

About hour after takeoff, the cockpit crew called back to me, and asked me perform a radar sweep of the area ahead. They said they were seeing a strange, undefined ball of light off the nose, somewhere in the distance, that appeared it might be moving towards us. The pilots said they could not make out any details, only that it was too big to be any star, moon, or planet, and it was moving independently of the background sky.

The pilots contacted the ATC controllers, asking if they had any other reported aircraft in our area, they replied that we were the only known aircraft flying over the eastern Med that night. I performed both radar and IFF sweeps of the area using onboard sensors, turning up nothing as well.

After the radar sweeps came nil, I powered up the aircraft’s forward-looking infrared camera, and this time I was able to see the object, it was just as the pilots were describing, a large, undefined, ball of light. Unfortunately, the IR camera onboard this aircraft was of an older generation, meaning the IR picture wasn’t much better than that of old black and white TV.

After fiddling with IR camera not able to resolve any definable image of the object, I decided to go up to the flight station to see the object for myself. It was as they described, a round, undefined, slightly yellow/orange ball of light. It was directly off the nose in the distance and appeared to be either tracking us, or moving toward us as it was getting bigger. I could not tell exactly how close it got, but after further closing in on us, it gently moved off to the left side of the aircraft, where it appeared to briefly parallel our course, and then it disappeared to the south, headed in a direction over the north coast of Africa, and disappearing off the horizon.

Of the 14 or 15 folks we had on board that night, only 4 or 5 of us were awake to witness the unexplained event. We all agreed that we had seen something of an unknown origin, but none of us thought much of it, and only causally mentioned it to the rest of the crew later. The encounter was never reported.

underwater light outruns one of the US NAVY'S fastest ships and the coverup that insues

In mid-summer 1974, I was stationed onboard the uss forrestal (cva-59)in the mediterraean ocean. my rate was an E-2 signalman that means I get to stand all the worst watches. My duty station on the ship was the signal bridge a small open deck area above the con-tower ( where the Captain and the XO and the flight boss run the ship)I had just taken my watch at 02:00. My job was to be the ships eye's ( very boring really )I had just pored myself a cup of coffee and lite a cigarette and picked up a pair of binoculars as I headed out on to the deck of the bridge, I walked to the edge of the bridge and looked over the 4' steel railing down towards the flight deck all was quiet, no movement. then I thought to myself boy I can see all the way down to the bow of the ship ! sure is bright out tonight, I turned and looked up to see a 3/4 moon...nice nite! I leaned against the railing and set my coffee down and begain to scan the horizion from port to starboard, ( no waves, just flat smooth water as far as the eye can see) At that elevation of almost 180' off the water viewing distance is about 20 miles on a clear night.

As I look from starboard back to port along the horizion line, out I would have to guess at about 8 miles was what looked like the reflection of the moon on the water but it looked kinda funny, so i pick up the binoculars and focused in on it.

what I saw was what appeared to be a bright light but under the water! I then walked over to the ships squak box(inter ship radio)hit the switch, leaned in and said ..Con sigs ! a second later a voice cracked back Con I, I said Con I have a contact baring 210 off the port beam, can you confirm ? The voice said stand by sigs.

sigs..Con ! I said Sigs I Sigs we have negative sonar contact ..do you have visual? my reply was afirmitive Con I have visual! The reply was stand-by Sigs ! I turned picked up my coffee and heard footsteps behind me from the ladder leading up from the bridge. Within 10 minutes, I had the captian, the XO, the flight boss and what had to be 8 or 10 officers from IOIC ( ships Intel.) All on my bridge. For the next 20 minutes we all watched as this thing moved back and forth across the bow of the ship at what had to be from 60 up to over 100 miles an hour cutting a zig zag pattern back and forth in front of the ship all this under water! at one point it stopped directly in our path and allowed us to come within about 4 miles of it. Suddenly it pulled away like we were parked and disapeared into the depths. Standing in the background behind all these officers I kinda felt out of place, so I retreated to the signal shack sat down at the desk and begain to fill out my log on the preseding events. Just as I was finishing up my report,a Lt.stepped into the doorway of the compartment and said the XO would like to see you.. and bring your log ! As I followed him down the ladder I was thinking I'm in trouble for something! He opened the door to the captains quarters and in the room were no less then 6 officers. The look on there faces was not good. The first to speak was a comander I did not recognize. his words seemed funny to me in the context of what had just happened. He said ...What do you think you saw this evening ? my responce was..

I have no Idea sir ! He said.. Well these events are currently under investigation by the navy and you are hear-by ordered not to speak of these events to anyone, not to your section chief, your division leaders not even to your buddies.. do you understand ? I said what events sir ?.... He looked at me with a very serious look and said ..very well you may leave your log on the desk on the way out, your dismissed I said.. yes sir! turned and stepped out into the hallway as the door closed behind me. I took two or three steps stopped and put my back to the wall and just slid to the deck. A Lt. stepped out of the room and I jumped to attention and stood there in front of him, he said all inquiries concerning your log are to be fowarded to the XO's office , Is that understood ! Yes Sir

NUFORC Note:

Time and date are approximate. We have spoken with the witness, and he seems to us to be quite credible. We have encouraged the individual to provide more information about the event, and we would welcome reports from any other witnesses. The skipper of the ship, at the time of the incident, was Captain James Scott. PD

US Navy ufo sighting

Aboard a US Navy ship. At night. We were watching satellites travel across the sky when in a split second it enlarged to the size of a saucer held at arm's length. It was white and looked like a bowl since the inside of the circle was darker than the edges (smooth transition from dark to light . It stayed there for about 5 seconds then shot straight up and disappeared. No continuing track of the satellite was observed. No sound. This was reported to Allen Hyneck in 1980 or so via talk radio call-in.

This is what it looked like.
