several lightining points seen moving in Tripoli's sky

I remember once in 1997 and in the middle of a summer night about 11:45 I was crossing a main road with a friend of mine in Tripoli Libya when suddenly noticed lightning points were moving together in western sky. Actually what the most wondering thing was that the lights were moving as if they were smart objects. In fact one of the points (it appeared as if it was the mother ship or so) was moving slower than the rest wish stopped moving suddenly till the slowest arrived close to them and disappeared together in the sky.

This happened in three minutes and what made this too serious that I was not alone my friend also noticed that minute by minute from the beginning.

A bright red circle shaped object that was moving straight and zigzaging.

I used to work abroad in libyan desert on oil rigs, and i was very familiar with the area, cause i been going there for many years. Every evening after work me and a friend of mine, he is also Maltese guy, we go for a long walk and chatting together just to pass the time, because in the desert there's nothing else to do besides working all day. It was a clear night with all the shining stars, and we were very far away from our camp site and nothing else was visible around our camp area, we were alone in this location. The area was really flat with no sand dunes around. While we were walking my friend was looking at the sky when he stopped suddenly, and i told him what's wrong and he said look up there and i saw a round shape very bright red colour the size of a football moving staight slowly then stopped, then start moving again but in zigzag pattern like, then stopped again, then went backwards straight and increased it's speed that in 2 sec it vanished. We were amazed by this sight and to be honest i was a little scared after the sighting. When we got back to camp none of our friends believed us and told us you were imagining so i didn't take it seriously, so i didn't bother much in mentioning about this for a long time.Who knows maybe it was really a U.F.O.

Lights in sky (mars brightness) seen several nights in a row by USAF members at Wheelus AFB.

After finishing a graveyard shift, a number of other airmen and myself would often hang out at the basketball court at the 6930th RGM at Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya. One such morning I looked to the north and saw a light sweeping across the sky with a very slight undulating path. I pointed it out and we all speculated what it might be. (this was a bunch of pretty smart guys due to our mission) We discounted inversion reflections, F-86D with afterburners (no satellites yet!) meteors. While speculating, here comes another one! Well for three nights in a row, we saw 4 to ten in one night. Although they were comeing from different parts of the norther horizon, they seemed to vanish pretty nearly the same place on the southern. (as determined by a fiducial point, an antenna)The path, when check on a map, was straight across the libyan desert crossing the Tbilsi Mountains.I did talk to an airman at the A C & W squadron (radar) after hearing the F-86D's scramble obviously in response to these odd lights. He said, "Oh, Yeah. We see these all the time" and quoted a speed I can't remember but was very fast.(it was odd to scramble jets at that time of the morning unless it was for an earnest cause- the officers do like their sleep!)
